Post subject:  Transgo Shift Kit and transmission installation ?'s

I'm in the process of installing a Euro TC and a Transgo shift kit in both the valve body and pump. The instructions for the Transgo kit call for a washer to go in front of the spring behind the overdrive piston. My kit did not include this washer.

Did your kit include the washer? I'm going to call transgo in the morning but I thought I'd see what you wise folks had to say.

I'm at a stand still until I get my hands on a new front pump cover for the tranny. I bent mine up pretty good getting it out. I hope it is a dealer stock item that I can pick up in the morning tomorrow. The tranny was quite a challenge to get out, I just hope I can get it back in. The two bolts on top required 2-3 feet of extensions to get off. I don't know how I'm going to get them back in. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check with GDE on shift kit. There is a reason they do not advise using it, but I don't recall it.

Get a magnetic extension for the last one with the socket. Slowly insert bolt and thread in the holes by hand with only extensions, no rachet.

DOC. I think you are referring to the resistor that get soldered between two connections on a sensor. I am not putting that in. The instructions from transgo state that you should not use the resistor with any kind of chip or tuner.

Wolverine. Thanks. That is a great idea.

Has anyone else put in a transgo shift kit? Did your kit come with a washer for the overdrive piston?

I just got off the phone with transgo. Apparently the instructions are wrong. There is NO washer in the kit. FYI for anyone else who pics up the 45RFE-HD2 kit from transgo.

Darn! When I installed the kit last year, I thought I misplaced the washer, so I simply put one in of exact same size and thickness... Hmmm... Me think I goofed and will have to pull out the throttle body at next transmission oil change! :banghead:

As long as your transmission shifts OK, I would say it is a non issue.

Finally got her all put back together. Man, the TC swap was a big job in my book. It was probably the biggest mechanic job I have ever accomplished. The most frustrating part for me was reinstalling the front pump cover after I installed the shift kit parts in the pump. The two snap rings did not want to go back in. I really had to smack both snap rings around to get them to cooperate. The other annoying part was the dip stick. First the mount got pinched between the engine and the bell housing, so I had to pull the transmission back out. Then getting the mount to line up with the hole for bell housing bolt was another exercise in trial and error.

I just want to say thanks to everyone at LOST, because without this forum, I would have never even attempted to do this.

Time to call GDE for the Full Torque tune. :pepper:

whats that shift kit feel like? ive had the full tq tune for over a year now, headed to suncoast in 2 weeks to grab a TC but i guess they wont install a shift kit for me. i have to shift into neutral EVERY SINGLE TIME i come to a stop or the whole vehicle shakes that thing just doesnt want to disengage. im thinking ill just buy the converter when im down there and find someone to install both somewhere else. only got a few days of leave man, i need a good transmission mechanic. either in north florida or va beach.

Talk directly with Ron Wolverton at Suncoast as the sales staff is not always forthcoming about whether or not they can or will do installations which I imagine actually depends on their shop schedule. They installed my Suncoast TC and the transgo kit for me about 1 year ago now plus a tranny sevice and clutch pk inspection cost was about $1,700 with a 2 year warranty on the TC. I drove over in the AM and was back home after supper.

Don't really notice any shift difference but my tranny fluid drain back problem is gone.

I feel like my shifts are slightly quicker, but not by much. If I were you I would buy the upgraded front pump. The front pump fix in the transgo kit did not solve my drain back issue. Mine still does what you are describing occasionally when the engine is cold.

mk38tech

Your trans fluid is low by about a quart. Put in more fluid the problem will go way.

By the way. Don't do the transgo shift kit. It makes the shifts too hard. The Suncoast TC is all you need.
