for those of you who had your vehicle start stalling when you put the jeep into reverse than drive...or hard shifting, pulling engine down. Did new filters fix the problem? or was it a check valve on the return cooler line, or something else.

If you're still interested, on mine, it did this for me only a dozen times, or so; it was cold when it started acting up. And it only acted up on the first attempt to put it into gear. It never did it twice in a row. Then one day it wouldn't start at all. The dealer changed out the fuel filter head with the upgraded model. It hasn't happened since. It really doesn't make sense to me, since I can't see any nexus, :dizzy: but it hasn't done this at all since the filter head was replaced, so I am happy.

I have to update this. It has now gotten colder and my CRD has done the stall thing twice since I posted this. If you ever find the issue, I would like to hear about it too.

the only ones in the shop that had a problem like this [i think it was more that i took a while to start to go when in reverse ] were fixed by replacing both filters and using atf+4 or a synthetic equivalent [i use amsoil myself]. Mine just started doing it at 60000 miles so im going to change fluids and order a gde tcm.

have you thought about a trans go shift kit. if you have the 45rfe it does wonders. my transmission was slipping really bad in reverse and would stall occasionaly but after the shift kit i haven't hat any problems. and its a cheep fix and not very hard.

As previously mentioned I've delt with the TC ATF drain back problem on Chrysler products for decades. On the CRD it typically occurs after the vehicle sits for overnight or a day's work but intermittantly; I've not seen or at least not noticed any relation to ambient temperature. On first startup the vehicle may or may not go "fully" into the gear selected (forward or reverse) but when you shift to the opposite gear either the vehicle won't move at all or it will run for like 100-200' and stall maybe with codes maybe with no codes.

If you have a problem like this make it a habit when you start after the vehicle has been sitting to crank the vehicle up; immediately shift into neutral; and hold the rpm at like 1500-2000 for maybe 15 seconds. If you forget and experience the car won't move symptom immediately shift into neutral and do the rpm thing. If your stalling goes away then you have the classic Chrysler drain back problem which can ususally be fixed by a tranny flush and install of both new filters (no e-bay filters) which should fix the problem. I like WIX filters but have seen at least one report of a WIX install not fixing the problem but a Mopar install did on the other hand I've seen the opposite. IMHO the placement of a check valve inside a filter to prevent the drain back is not the best idea in the world but... I'd prefer a separate servicable valve but...
