Post subject:  Can't bleed fuel filter - plunger seal damaged

Hi all -

After buying my 2002 2.5 CRD a couple months ago, I finally got around to changing the fuel filter. When I took the filter assembly apart, I noticed that the o-ring/seal on the plunger for bleeding/priming the fuel system was damaged. I decided to try re-assembly anyway and when I got everything back together, of course the plunger will not purge the air in the system.

Any thoughts on how to get it running again? Unfortunately I'm pretty far from any available parts so replacing the filter head assembly is going to have to be a very last resort.

I know the 2002 is supposed to have a lift pump, but I can't seem to figure out if its running or not, and attempts to bleed using the pump seem to be failing, though I may not be doing it correctly.

Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

All set. Thanks to TonyCRD on the JeepLiberty.es board for telling me to remove the bleeder screw and fill with clean diesel. Once that was full, the system seemed to be able to get rid of the little extra air itself and it started right up! Lucky for me since here in Costa Rica there aren't any replacement filter head/supports available and when they come back in stock they cost $240!!!

Cheers to all
