I recently purchased a used (1 owner) CRD with 95k miles, no warranty. Within 500 miles the turbo failed according to the dealership. It went from running fine to gutless power and black smoke. Is there a section on this forum that addresses this or can someone help me. I am mainly trying to find out if there is any particular issue that leads to this or if it was any issue of the mileage. I also want to know if there are any upgrade turbos available or if I have to go with OE. Any info related to this topic is greatly appreciated.

There's a CRD section... your turbo is less likely blown as much as the CAC hose is.

Hi there! You will have more success by posting in the CRD section:

Sorry to read about your turbo failure... There are lots of threads pertaining to turbo, do a quick search within the aforementioned link, from maintenance to repairs, whole replacement with OEM and even a turbo upgrade, courtesy of GDE. I would also strongly suggest you take some time to read Sir Sam noob guide, very instructive... BTW, black smoke and limp mode do not necessarily mean you have a failed turbo, hence a good research. Welcome aboard!

x2

we've have a couple of real Turbo fails and most have followed with rods exiting the bottom of the engine in about 30 seconds (all the oil pumps out).

However virtually everyone with 40k miles has blown a CAC hose - black smoke - no power. The new hoses from Mopar are Si lined and Samco Si are available.

Oh yeah and dealerships are generally clueless - there was no real training on the diesel.

Sir Sam Noob guide is very helpful

I second the idea of the hoses. It does not sound like your turbo is gone, check your hoses and get away from the stealership.
