Well I'm over 90K miles now, time to do the T-belt.

I have all the parts except the water pump. I dont plan on changing the water pump because
I dont want to remove the cam sprokets. I guess I will cross that bridge only if I absolutely
have to.
Questions:
1) I have read about using drill bits or allen wrenches for locking the cams, will that work for the
crank too? Does the crank have to be locked?
2) Without the special tool for the tensioner, how do I set the belt tension?

Hopefully I will be able to knock this out over Christmas break without the vehicle being held up
for more than 2-3 days.

Dave

If your not changing the water pump then just mark the cams really well and remove the belt, try to turn the engine to a neutral spot of compression.

you can make your own tensioner tool, two drill bits or allen wrenchs that go into the holes, then something to pry between the two of them for leverage to move the tensioner, not the best way but several people have done it that way.

Thanks Sam,

Do you know if anyone has tried locking the cam sprokets tegether instead of using the pins?

Ya some people have done that with various methods. But if your just replacing the belt theres no need to lock the cams together, just mark the cams, remove the belt, install the new one with cams properly aligned.

I'm getting ready to tackle mine about 2.5 hrs south of you (Palm Bay). I'll probably wait until after Christmas so if you don't have it done by then I might be able to help out once I have some experience on my own vehicle. I have the cam gear locking tool and tensioner wrench (neither are really required from what I've read).
