Spent the afternoon removing and cleaning fuel tank for the lift pump installation. The quick connectors at the fuel tank module were loose and floppy, probably where the air was being sucked in. Should I replace the plastic hoses with the same thing new from dealer, or just use conventional rubber fuel hose and clamps. Or will the old ones hold under pressure? I really don't want to have to remove the tank again. |

The stock quick connects are designed for pressure. They should be fine with the in tank pump. If you put in an external lift pump, I would replace them with a lined diesel rated hose and worm clamps. You only need to do this on the feed. The return is always under pressure. |

They will probably be ok but if it was me and I was in there that far I'd replace them with diesel rated fuel line and clamps. Why take any chance given the minimal cost of replacement. FYI I have personal experience, on a gasser, with the failure of a quick disconnect fitting hence I lean to the why take chances side. |

I agree, especially since it is in an area that you can not even see, to check if it was dripping. I do a have concern of clamping the hose properly to the plastic fitting on the pump module though. Maybe a metal ferrule should be inserted inside the fitting to hold the clamping pressure. Maybe, I worry too much.

If you are careful you are probably worrying too much, should be fine if you don't godzilla the clamp, although if you can find a ferrule that's not a bad idea. Of course if you really want to go overboard see the site linked from the discussion at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=63316&view=previous |

Wow, that's really going overboard. Thanks for the info. I'm heading to the garage for another look, I may turn a stainless ferrule out on my metal lathe and clamp a new hose on. |

The location and large diameter of the square shouldered ring on the outlet nipple does not make for good clamping surface for a conventional hose connection, IMO. That said, I have thoroughly cleaned the original quicky fittings with paper towels soaked in diesel fuel and will attempt to reuse. Will keep all posted of the outcome. |

I used the original plastic fittings over 4 years ago and they are still fine. As mentioned they are designed for a pressure system
