I didn't feel like removing the seat so I just lifted the trim and reached in under the carpet.
I spliced into the blue wire with the orange stripe by striping some of the insulation with a razor, spit the strands, shoved the new wire through for a good mechanical connection, twisted the end around, taped up the splice and put a couple of zip ties over it to keep the tape from unraveling.
Image
Next, I removed the tape where the wires for the sending unit and ABS wires go through the floor. Then I reached in under the carpet and followed the wire bundle to the point where it goes outside. I shoved the wire through the rubber and into the plastic loom.
Image
Seemed like the most protected place to put the pump is right above the axle. I used some self tapping sheet metal screws and attached the ground wire to one of them.

All good right? I turned on the key....nothing... So I swapped the A/C relay with the pump prime relay. OK, I hear the whine. Then I cracked the bleed screw...nothing...Hooked up the Mityvac and sucked while the pump runs....still nothing... I took the banjo bolt and fitting out and Mityvac'ed the crap out of it. All of the sudden, poop, a bunch of black plastic curls came out and a ton of yellow foam. I put it all back together and cracked the bled screw. Ran the pump until all the bubbles came out.

During the test drive, I noticed the hesitation was gone. Idle was smooth and it seemed to have more power. I can hear the pump whine since it mounted directly to the floor. However I am worried about the long term reliablity of this pump. every once and a while, it makes a horrible sound like two cats fighting. Has anyone have a Mr Gasket pump running for any length of time?

No idea about anyone using the Mr. Gasket pump but did you every figure out what the Black plastic curls were? It almost ounds like the insides of the pump or maybe you left a cap on one end or the other. All of which would worry me since the cat fighting sound is ussually a bad sign in any kind of pump. I would be double checking my pump here shortly probably pumping a few gallons into a bucket and pulling my fuel filter.

I think the black curls were sucked out of the original tank. It has an aftermarket steel tank on it now. I am guessing the original owner punctured it with a trailer tongue. :?

I think you may have damaged the Mr Gasket pump by pulling trash through it... It should never make any noise other than the humming.

I had mine running great for about 40-50k miles, only problems were a weak hose clamp (of course on the pressure side) and the brass pressed-in nipple of the pump... Also on the pressure side - Both were pushed off the pump and wasted a lot of fuel before the engine stopped. The nipple breaking off was the reason I removed the pump, but I blame my own mounting that failed on that one.

The pump should run for a long long time... But I think you have a bad one. Get a replacement while you have the opportunity

Curious, the only trash that could have gotten in would have come from the little filter that came with it. I only took the hose off a full tank and put it on the filter. Yeah I got soaked too.

The screech sound seems to follow an acceleration or hard corner. I wonder if the pump was damage by running dry when I was trying to suck the plug out of the hard line.

I have had a Mr. Gasket installed in my engine bay for about 8 weeks now. When i first installed it, it would make some noise when the engine was not running. With the engine running it makes almost no sound, I assume because there is negative pressure at the ouput relieving any strain on the pump. I put in a full time bypass on the fuel head, check valve out of the fuel head plumbed straight into the return line at the fuel pump. Less noise now when the engine is not running but still noisier than when the engine is running.

I have concluded that the cat screech sound is the pump sucking air, probably through the threads on the filter. I noticed that the rough idle returned and the plunger went soft. Sure enough there was a ton of air in the head again. I am going to pull the little filter and seal the treads this weekend. If it does it again, I will put the full time bypass on it.

I wouldn't fool with it, return the pump where you purchased it from and start over.

Listen to RacerTracer on this. The name of these pumps is as follows:

CHEAP... CHINESE... TRASH.

Try again, you will get a better one. The black curls might just as easily have been the internals of that pump coming apart, you don't know.

The Mr. Gasket pumps get pretty mediocre reviews for durability at best. Older, like 10 years or better, Facets do too but the newer Facets get good reviews and are made in the USA if you don't want to spend the $s for a Kennedy. I got a Facet 40109 4-7psi pump from these folks (http://www.yachtsupplydepot.com/mechani ... t_697.html) after the local NAPA offered to ship one in from who knows where and apprently in a gold box on its own jet.

I just installed my facet 40109 by the battery using the battery hold down bolt to hold my homemade bracket. I used dampening mounts. I cannot hear the pump run at all. I can only tell it is running, by touching it.

Nicely done. I used the same spot to mount mine.

Is it a flow thru lift pump?

Will that pump allow for a non stop flow of fuel if it the pump should ever fail?

My set up exactly but i used this one instead

http://www.facet-purolator.com/index.ph ... &Itemid=35

water resistant and there is no noise when it is running ..... $47.00.

Yes, it is a flow through. I could blow through it easily before I installed it. I bought mine from the yacht supply place papadingo mentioned above. Thank you catcrd. I've had this on the shelf since summer time. Finally found a spare moment to get it done.

Yeah, about 10 minutes. I actually took the pictures while it was half done so you could see what I did and maybe help the next guy plan his project.

Nothin wrong with a 10 minute mod... That is about how long it took me to install mine, while I was sitting in the parking lot of the parts store I bought it at, 250 miles from home. I was trying to solve a problem and it did (I think) so looks were secondary at that point.

That's too bad about the black curls.

I put the Mr. Gasket pump in my jeep back in July. I placed it on the frame rail under the rear seat. I also removed the inlet filter on the pump and replaced it with a hose adapter like it has on the output.

Once I was done, I turned the ignition switch to "on" and ran it until it timed out, then I reset it and did that one more time. Then I tried to start it and it started right up.

In September I replaced the fuel/water separator. I put the new one on empty. I cycled the pump as above and the engine started right up again, didn't even run rough. I have no idea where all the air went.

I really like my Mr. Gasket lift pump so far.
