Just got the following e-mail response when I requested a service quote: Quote: "We appreciate your interest in have your vehicle service however we generally do not work on diesels. please call me to discuss ..." This is from the same dealership that quoted me about $95 for a coolant change over the phone, then changed it to $200 when I showed up for the appointment. It can be very frustrating to be a CRD owner at times. All I really needed was to have the accessory drive (i.e. serpentine) belt replaced. |

Install new engine accessory drive belt and replace thermostat. They just called me back and confirmed that they no longer work on diesels. I have three options: (1) find a new service provider, (2) learn how to do all the work on my own, or (3) sell it. I'm leaning towards #1 or #3. It is a shame, because it really is a great vehicle, assuming you can have it serviced on occasion. However, I will never go back to that dealer again. |

That is complete and total BS. Serp belt and tstat replacement are essentially identical on most modern vehicles regardless of whether the engine is gas or diesel, certainly all Chrysler products I've seen since the mid-1990s. But if this dealer is too stupid or clueless or both to know that then you are better off with options 1 or 2. If you don't want to mess with either of these items yourself any competent independent shop can handle them both although you may have to supply them with the OEM tstat and gasket as it's not a local parts store item in contrast to the serp belt which is a Gates K061130. I'll bet those idiots think brakes, tires, air filter, battery, etc. on a CRD are somehow "diesel". My long time local independent shop has no problem working on my diesel (CRD or in the past Dodge) for stuff like that which is not particularly "diesel" specific. Now inside the engine (not counting the timing belt which is no more odd than a gasser timing belt) and diesel fuel system (once fuel hits the CP3 system) is another matter. |

After a few calls, I found two other Jeep dealers that will work on it, and one VW dealer. They all said the serp. belt is an easy job with an hour or less of labor. I do basic stuff myself, oil change, air filter, fuel filter, rotate tires, but I do not feel comfortable with belt changes. I am shocked that a dealership would throw away business like that. They won't get any positive referrals from me. |

You live in one of the California "ME TOO" states. Your dealer is just doing what he thinks the population of New York demands so he's not going to work on your diesel that was not sold new in New York. |

Any independent mechanic will do this particular job for you. However, if option 2 is not an option for you I would seriously consider option 3. I don't think you can expect to maintain this vehicle successfully without being prepared do some or all of the work yourself. |

So true, if u can do oiil and filter changes and stuff u r probably not too far from being to change the serp belt. Idlers and decoupled pulleys need a bit more thought but it's worth the effort to learn, a few beers or something for the local mech can do wonders. |

did you notice any sprinter vans in the shop? what about asking if they work on them? if they do..GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ANYWAY..they're lying about working on diesels then go speak to the dealer manager..not the service manager..or the OWNER of the dealer. give them an ear full, politely, about what's going on..they might not know. -dkenny |

I went there last September for a coolant change. I asked for a quote, and they said it would be $95, but when I arrived for service they changed it to $200. The excuse was that they did not know it was a diesel. However, I made it quite clear that it was a diesel when I requested the quote. Against my better judgement, I went ahead with the service. Last week I asked for another service quote. It was via email and I mentioned diesel a few times, to make sure they would not make the same mistake twice. They must have taken offense to that, and said they no longer work on diesels. I emailed the general sales manager and outlined the above, being as polite as possible and accurately restating the facts. He flipped the email to the service manager without responding to me. The service manager called me and was actually very nice and tried to be as helpful as he could within the obvious constraints put on him by the dealership. However, he said they would not service my diesel. I got the feeling that they will work on CRDs if they can make a huge profit, but will pass otherwise. Personally, I was shocked by the poor customer service. However, I did find two other Jeep dealers near me with CRD trained mechanics. I also found a VW dealership that will work on all makes and models. I had the VW dealer change the serpentine belt and it was $47 for labor and $80 for the belt. I admit the parts were high, probably double, but the labor was quite reasonable. In the end, it all worked out for the best, as I should never have gone back to that dealer anyway. This site and the advice from fellow CRD owners has been invaluable. |

First mistake: Believing that any Chrysler "dealer trained" mechanic is CRD trained. Their "training" on the new model consists of an hour-or-so long video describing ALL of the new vehicles of that model year (of which the CRD was only a small part) and a short quiz at the end. Most of these dealer techs have never SEEN a CRD in person, much less heard about them if they even remember that tape from 7 years ago. After my most recent experience, I am convinced that the dealer service department exists only to get you over a barrel, and then to start probing the depth of your wallet when you have no means of easy escape. Actually repairing something? Yea, that might happen by accident, but it is by no means the prime goal of the service department. Taking you for a ride is. Stay far away from any dealer. Find your local "Association of Diesel Service" (ADS) shop, or your local Bosch Injector Service place. The Bosch shop will not be interested (or capable) in most cases of servicing ANYTHING other than the fuel pump, turbo, and injectors... Or even doing the remove / replace work. But this is OK. You only want to talk to them to find out who THEY suggest for the best service in the area. These are the specialists that the remove / replace mechanics would send out your injectors to, to get worked on and brought back to factory specs. They will know who the posers are, and who knows what they are doing on a diesel motor. If you find a good shop for your motor, chances are, they will also be smart enough for the rest of the truck too. But be prepared for NO Chrysler support at all on this. We are completely on our own. If that bothers you... It might be better to put the truck up for sale here. These are very much hobby-owner vehicles, not a pushbutton toyota. |

please understand..If it was my jeep and the dealer told me the same line and I saw them working sprinter vans. no..no...think worse than just walking away..lying and deceit.. the attorney general office and anyone else.. to say they don't work on diesels when they're working on diesel sprinter vans..??? THAT IS NOTHING MORE THAN FRAUD! but yes I would NEVER darken their door again for service or parts..EVER!! I know my wife jeep has never been back to the dealer after it was out of warranty..and not because they wouldn't work on it..I just don't like the thought of dealer working it after about all the problems with dealer over simple issues..like changing the oil.. sucks the only thing the dealer serivce guy told us the was any good was to put silicon on the window tracks to help keep the motors working.. I had to fix the wiring connections to the motor..yes we still have the the factory window motor and assy.. on all four windows..I fixed the drivers side twice... -dkenny |

Call Jeep corporate. They will assign you a customer advocate and give you a case number. Your advocate will call the dealership and ask why they won't service the cars they are supposed to service. |

I got fed the same BS at the beginning, when I knew not much about my CRD. That dealer turned me back after 2 visits, claiming they were not qualified to work on the CRD |
