I had a dealer performed glow plug replacements and, not surprisingly, the dealer removed the EHM so I need to re-install. I seasonally removed the stock air intake to the filter box in order to serve warmer intake air during the winter. As I look at the open portal to the filter box it occurs to me that perhaps a EHM ported to the box might be a good idea.

I am sometimes annoyed with the visible smoke and odor of the EHM, not to mention the pollution. By running the EHM forward to the filter box portal, most, if not all of the fumes will be sucked through the air filter. My thought is to route the EHM continuously downhill to the portal, with the hose perhaps terminating in near the bottom of the box. I anticipate that the majority of the oil mist will condense within the hose and drip into the box so that the box will become oily and warrant periodic, but very accessible cleaning, and the air filter would need frequent inspection and replacement. Perhaps the oil will condense and drip into the box to an extent that the air filter will not quickly turn to sludge.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Something similar was done on the Volvo D24T. The result was that when the soot clogged the air filter, the turbo tried to suck the filter, box, and hose assembly in, destroying filter, box etc. A standard mod was to do an EHM, or buy a LOT of air filters and change ridiculously quickly.

I would not route the discharge from the CC into the air filter.

X2 I was about the make the same point but without an example; not to mention all you are doing is moving the point of oil injection into the intake air flow from point A to point B.

someone was trying to route the line to the airbox with an old style PCV air filter at the end - to condense out the oil mist. - don't know how well it worked he was just starting it
(and I can't find the Thread now)
