Anyone else have this constant ticking while idleing, that is heard coming frrom an area near the front of the tranny where it meets the engine? I have heard the ticking from day one or at least since i've purchased the vehicle, but since I heard another CRD running without the ticking noise last week, I have been wondering what is going on here. Anybody have an idea? |

Funny enough I wrote up a post last week or so regarding the exact same sound. Mine did not start until after the Jeep went into the dealer and got a new transfer case belt. Since then it has been giving me unpredictable rattling, sqeeking, etc. sounds in the same area. I will have it back to do the dealership hopefully shortly for them to solve this issue as it started from the moment I sat in the Jeep at their lot. Please let me know what you find out and I will pass any information I may come across your way. Peace, Scott |

If it's a TC bolt, certainly possible, I'd think the tick speed would change with engine/driving speed. Check for turbo vanes contacting housing. Odd noise due to bad passenger side engine mount. Just random thoughts. |

Papa, I can't hear the ticking when traveling so I can't confirm that it is a constant ticking. I notice it only while idleing. I have an appointment with a jeep mechanic sometime next week, so i'll see what he thinks and report back. |

I've had the ticking since day one as well, I hear it more when the engine is not at full operating temp. I mentioned it to a tech at the dealer once and he said it's the oil pump |

I was able to put the CRD on a lift yesterday to see if I could pin point the location of the noise. I couldn't hear any ticking that was out of order, the loud thicking I heard previously was barely heard. The ticking was very faint or non existant. Puzzled!!! I plan to recheck it again when the weather breaks. |

While on the lift is it safe to assume the engine was in Park? If so I wonder if, being extremely careful, you could try it on the lift in gear but, of course not moving? Alternatively try the latter in 2wd with the rear wheels off the ground but spinning. I ask with the thought this might help tie the noise to torque convertor and drive train spinning vs not spinning. |

Yes, the transmission was in park, I will try it in gear next time and see what I hear. |

I suspect the TC is on the way out, if you replace it make sure you do the pump as well |

Mine has had the same ticking intermittently since day one also. However I cannot locate it's place of origin. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it will start. Some of my theories have been air bubbles going through the oil pump or bubbles trapped somehow within the lifters. Another theory is that it is injector noise. I'm on my third TC and changing out to new ones has not made any change to the tick. I really don't think about it any more. |

I now remember noticing that the transmission dip stick was out about 10" when the ticking was at it's lowest. I am wondering if that isn't the cause of the ticking since the dipstick is too long it may be hitting something that it shouldn't be, I'll be checking for this next. The TC and Pump were both replaced in 2010 |

Just heard back from dealer regarding my ticking, vibration, sqeaking under shifter. Found an exhaust pipe clamp that was loose. No charge for fix or diagnostic as I suspect this must have been forgotten during transfer case belt work. Maybe this clamp is your problem |

The ticking is sporadic and I noticed that more often than not, when the weather is below 32F and at first start up, the ticking is non existant. |

Well I had the Jeep on a lift and used a Mechanic's Stethoscope to locate the noise. It's loudest nearest the turbo / exhaust down pipe / heat shield area and I can't pin point it. Sounds like a loose piece of metal ticking against metal. Any ideas. |
