| Post subject: | CRD in limp mode, no power, little boost. p0045, p0299 |
Ok this past weekend my CRD went into what I believe is limp mode. It will not re past 3000-3500 RPM and is running little to no boost. Its very down on power. I scanned for codes and got: p0045 - boost control solenoid open circuit/excessive current p0299 - turbo underboost(i have had this one forever, i believe it is because of a dire need for a lift pump) Any ideas as to what I can do to fix this, the dealership is utterly useless and I cant condone spending $1000 in diagnostics fees for them to likely never figure it out. I have already done the bypass on the solenoid test and nothing changed, checked all the CAC hoses and they are fine, the MAP sensor was cleaned 3 moths ago as well as the turbo was replaced 3 months ago....................... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Yeah I am starting to believe it is a bad wire. While driving it today it mysteriously fixed itself.........................so tomorrow im going to chase everything and see if I can find it. |

Probably more common that people think - the mice go looking for a home when it gets cold. I've had 'em chew a little insulation in the engine compartment (we live in the country). Mark |

As you have an 06 you might want to look for chaffed wires where the main bundle goes behind the fuel filter head bracket. There have been reports of problems there. |

Ok so I didnt find any bad wires, and all the vacuum lines are ok. If I unplug the harness from the solenoid I get all my boost and power back. I can hear it leaking vacuum to atmosphere but it gives my back my boost............ I dont know if that means I have a bad sensor telling the solenoid not to work properly or what, cause it works. If I plug the harness into it I can hear it click and it no longer leaks to the atmosphere.......... I have no clue, lol. |

Found this: http://www.justanswer.com/jeep/1fwwa-20 ... ngine.html Had this for the P0299 code: P0299-BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR POSITIVE DEVIATION When Monitored: With the engine running. Set Condition: Actual boost pressure differs from the boost pressure setpoint by more than 1000 hpa. POSSIBLE CAUSES AIR FILTER AIR RESTRICTION CHECKING FOR AIR LEAKS CHECKING THE BOOST CONTROL VACUUM SUPPLY BOOST PRESSURE ACTUATOR TURBOCHARGER Gives you a few places to look? At least one place I found had a connection between P0299 and the EGR (http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct ... f0f784a/48). Any chance your EGR is acting up? Mark Mark |

Not sure what you mean by "If I unplug the harness from the solenoid I get all my boost and power back"; if that's the boost pressure solenoid you disconnected then it's likely the solenoid is bad. There is a test procedure posted somewhere on here or I can shoot you a copy with a picture if you send me an email. |

Yeah if I unplug the connector going to the solenoid all of the boost returns and all of the codes go away except p1250 which is what I unplugged. Im not sure if its bad or not cause it does still function, if I plug it in I here it click. So the solenoid is moving. I think the problem is whats triggering it. I think its getting +12V at all times and not allowing the turbo to function normally...................thats where I am lost. If you have anything you want me to try please post it up, im all for ideas. |

GDE's writeup for this says "By-passing of the on/off solenoid is very straight forward. Trace the vacuum line output from the black plastic reservoir to the input of the on/off solenoid. Remove this vacuum line and plug it directly into the turbo EVM on the port labeled "VAC". The turbo EVM is the one with the blue rubber isolator and vacuum line running directly to turbo." |
