With 73,000 on the crd, the stat was stuck open and was not coming to temp. When replacing the stat, I removed the air box and air inlet hose to turbo, I found the inlet hose oil soaked at the turbo. Upon removing it was so soaked it almost torn. Also when removing the CAC hose at the intercooler I also found signs of oil. I know that with the way the ccv is plumbed into the air inlet of the turbo there will be signs of oil. But my question is with 73,000 miles would this be normal ? I did check the oil level and it was not low. I did change the oil and found signs of oil on the bottom of the turbo housing . She runs fine no loss of power and not in limp mode. Is what I found normal in the inlet hose for 73,000 miles or do you think the turbo is going? Any input? Thanks Guy's |

I hate to say it but that's perfectly normal. CCV puck on top of engine dumps oily vapors into airbox to turbo hose just in front of turbo, hence hose rots (ca. $55 dealer item), then on thru turbo to hose to intercooler and intercooler to engine hence those hoses rot. See Sam's NOOB guide sticky and the Samco hose sticky. Solutions with varying degree of success: 1. replace airbox to turbo hose if it rots - nothing better available. 2. replace turbo>intercooler>engine hoses with Samco's (my preference) or 2n gen OEM 3. don't overfill engine with oil as the surplus just spits out CCV - oil dip stick can be misleading with a stock oil filter capacity is 6.3qts and with oversize filter 7qts regardless of what dip stick says. 4. elephant hose mod - plumbs CCV to dirt and plugs input to airbox to turbo hose - removes oil mist from engine system but sends it to environment, won't pass inspection if caught. 5. Provent or similar - plumbs CCV to an oil catcher that can be drained and then to airbox to turbo hose - same effect on oil mist as in #4 but probably ok on inspection as CCV system function remains. 6. GDE tune may help overall but I'm not 100% sure. FYI if you have not already done so clean your MAP sensor per the NOOB guide. |

Thank you for your reply, I also was feeling it was normal, with 73,000 miles. I have ordered the replacement hose and will be doing the elephant hose mod as well. Where I live there is no inspection on diesel's yet. Will do the pro vent this summer. |

Actually - most of them blow about the 35-40K range - so it would have been normal for 37,000 miles - to hit 73,000 that way - someone was really, really gentle........ |
