Rear Door Glass Not Unlatching With Handle

Post subject:  Rear Door Glass Not Unlatching With Handle
I looked through the service manual as to find the part that has failed me so I can fix my rear glass problem. But to no avail. If anybody knows the solution for the rear door handle not unlatching the glass when unlocked, please let me know. The glass will open when I use the button on my key. It will however not unlatch when I try to use the handle.

Page 23-40 of the 2005 Service Manual shows the latch. I don't see a rod from the door handle to the window latch, but I do see electrical wiring harness - so my guess is that the door handle electrically releases the window. If it's not being released, I'd suspect the a switch in the door handle mechanism that makes this happen.

There is a small micro-switch that the door handle activates. You access it from the inside by removing the plastic cover.
You can replace the micro-switch by itself.
There was a technical notice about water getting into the switch and destroying it. :)

Copied from an old post on this forum, I don't have the link handy.

Symptoms - manual pull on the handle to the 1st deteant but window opening doesn't occur or inconsistently occurs; manual pull to the 2nd detent the gate opens and forces the window open; often the window glass latch won't close; function seems normal with key fob.

Cause - bad micro switch in the tail gate handle. part number "cenad160" 3.55$ in Canada, don't know in the states. NOTE that part number comes up as a hard to find part but a look in the 2005 & 06 parts manuals suggests 05143017AA is a wiring pigtail with the switch installed and a dealer price of $12 as of 2011.

Fix - replace switch; you need to take off the back door trim, just by pulling it off, there's about 10 body clips holding it, then you take the off two bolts (10mm) retaining the handle,and you have 2 torx screw (size is 27) on the side of the door to remove, to get the handle out. You disconnect the wire, take a small flat head screwdriver and slide off the retaining clip and the little micro-switch from the handle. When you get the new one, fill up the handle insert with dielectric grease, slide in the new micro-switch which comes with the wiring,and reinstall everything back together.

My '06 had the same problem, intermittently. Of course the gate would open but when closing, the flipper glass latch was in the closed state already, so the gate would "bounce".

Guided by other posts on this forum, I pulled the gate panel, pulled the switch, cleaned the connections (WD-40) and the problem never reoccurred. It gets a little moisture, and corrosion, in there....

As I am now the owner of BioCRD's '06 CRD Limited, tonight the intermittent problem has returned. I'll have to check the micro-switch. Might have to just buy a replacement micro-switch as suggested above.

Also my transmission shifter has acted up twice now and does not want to shift until I lock the door lock switch.

Are both of these possibly pointing to an issue with the BCM as it controls both functions??
