Can anybody tell me, please, if there is a quick way to determine whether or not the filter housing assembly has been changed or not? I've read a bit on what filtration options are available, and on how to change the filter head, and whether or not it is worth doing, but I haven't seen anything yet on how to determine whether it is old or new.

Our new to us CRD came with no maintenance records, and what I would call 'spotty' maintenance; wrong engine oil, wrong transmission fluid, wrong coolant, MAP never cleaned, but the transmission filters were changed recently, the oil filters used were Napa Gold, the air filter was almost new, the Turbo hoses look new, and the TC was changed.
So, I just don't know whether the filter head has been done, or not, and it would be annoying to pay for parts I did not need. Suggestions?

The answers you seek are in the noob guide! But I'll be helpful in case someone finds this in a future search:

Must have missed that part, Sam, thanks for your patience! I do have the new filter head. Curious how some things are done properly and others not done at all or done wrong. I doubt that the PO was handy, so I am surmising that this was all done by 'professionals', that is, by people who are paid to know how to, and to do, these sorts of things right. It is little wonder, with them having started a new family, that they dumped this thing. What a pity for them, but what a great thing for me!

Wow--I had no idea there were so many CRD-specific videos up there on the YouTube. Fantastic!
