Post subject:  MAF sensor question

So after reading through the posts, I started out with unplugging my MAF until I get a chance to take care of everything else. Wife's going to try and find some rubber line while she's out at lowes. I do have a question though. After unplugging the MAF sensor, the CEL never came on. I'm wondering if there's a way to tell if there's either a SEGR installed, or a GDE tune installed? maybe either look for something installed somewhere, or could GDE tell by a serial number or something?

I can provide a bit of help:
1. I'm not sure that the CEL comes on immediately, there may be some delay, and I think it would come on even if you have a GDE tune. That said you might want to make sure the CEL light works by either looking directly at it when you first switch on the ignition as it should briefly light then or invoking the instrument cluster test by by holding the trip odometer button while turning the ignition on but not starting the engine. It will cycle through all bulbs and gauges.
2. Cannot help you on the SEGR, don't have one and don't recall seeing an install picture.
3. Keith at GDE can tell you if you have a tune based on your VIN number. Also if when you first crank up the RPMs, no foot on throttle, flairs to ca. 1000 before dropping to idle then you probably have a tune.

RE: is the GDE tune installed or not.

Here's a way to know if you have a GDE tune or not.

At first start up, cold engine, pay attention to the tachometer:

When you turn the key and the engine fires up, does the tach spike up quickly past 1000 rpms?

If it does, then you have a GDE tune, it's a GDE trademark.

sweet. I'll check that out when my wife gets back, and see if the rpms flare up on startup. I'll also verify that the CEL works correctly. I did just get the Liberty from Carmax, so it should be good, but I'll check it all out. Thanks for the advice!

Ok, no GDE tune, which I'm not surprised, but the CEL light did come on on her on the way home. I pulled and cleaned the MAP sensor-dirty, but not horrible, pulled my intercooler lines and checked them out. They were still solid, but dirty. I soaked them in royal purple for a bit ne then dried them out. Not the best job, bt they are a bit better. I also installed the EHM mod, and dumped it out right before the rear axle. Ordered the Stant thermostat, so that should be in in a few days, and I'll install that, as my temp gauge doesn't go above the 1/4 way mark.

I'm not sure if I missed a subject on this or not, but after installing my EHM mod, I really didn't like the way the stock hose from the CCV valve was just open, so I went to the auto parts store, and bought a 3/4 in expansion plug, and put it in the end of the hose. To make sure it didn't slide too far into the intake, I went ahead and ran a hose clamp around the hose, just below it, to keep it in place. We'll see how that works out, but it should help keep the hose from sucking in debris.

I got the fluid for the tranny filter change-After reading through more threads though, I'm wondering if I got enough-I went with 5 qts, as that's what's recommended for just a service, but I may go out and buy another 5 qts just in case it's low. I'm waiting to do the filter change until I get my tranny pan drainplug in from Geno's. Any suggestions as to where to install it, so I have enough clearance in the pan for it to sit, without it hitting anything?

1) on quantity you might want to see ChesterCRDs post at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=64932

2) I think a lot of folks that do the EHM pull that hose down at the airbox to turbo connection and plug that connection with like a plastic champagne cork. Of course leaving the hose and plugging the top lets you easily return to stock if need be for inspections.

being a wine snob I opted for a REAL cork, and I thought it most appropriate when blocking an intake port to use a PORT cork. :ROTFL: <ducks>

Actually, I am not a wine snob at all; the reason I wanted a real cork is that I don't know how plastic corks do with petroleum, or how the adhesive used to glue the ground up corks together does either, but I know real cork works pretty well around hot oil.
