Since being at the 70,000 mile mark I changed the filters and trans fluid today. The T/c was changed at the dealer at 38,000. I found the sump filter had split at the seam, could see the filter media. All of the media was still intacked. I have never seen this happen. Will post a pic tomorow. Trans was shifting ok :?

You better make a fast run to the Casino while you luck is in a running streak, you don't know how lucky you are.
Others have seen their transmissions turn into a core to be rebuilt when that happens.
Since the filter split, you should consider a 3/8" Magnifine inline filter to catch any fine ferrous metal particles that may have gotten past the sump filter. The fine ferrous metal particles end up in the valve body solenoids (that use electromagnets) and screw up shifting.
Unless you swallow lumps of coal and get diamonds out the other end, the Magnifine filter will look like cheap insurance. I paid ~$20 for my first one but as more online places are selling them, the price is coming down. I installed mine up under the AC/Transcooler up front. More and more Factory Rebuilds are requiring them for warranty since they reduce warranty claims.
Besides the engineer who invented it was from OZ, so it can't be all bad.

Thank's for the inline filter info. I did use OEM filters and have the 100,000 mile warrenty. I did drive it for about 40 miles and shifting seems fine. Hopefuly I dodged the bullet, time will tell.

Yes, I had a US made trans filter split at the seam several years ago....i put a cheap china made one and it has been good for the past 40k miles. when i change my filters and fluid again this spring, I'll go again with the cheap china made filter.

I thought I had a front pump or torque converter failure when my filter spli at the seam....the pump was drawing air instead of fluid from the pan because of the split.
