I drained the full drain tube on the filter 2 weeks ago. It took it 2000 miles to fill up with oil.

Now, after 2 weeks and only about 400 miles, the tube is full again!!!

I'm using rotella 5w40 full syn.

How much do you guys get in your filters?

There are some variables involved, type and viscosity of oil used, how hard the engine is run, that sort of thing.

Look at it on the bright side, all that oil could be in the intercooler, intact, or EGR.

Wow. That seems like a lot. I have 3" of oil in mine and it's been 6,000 miles. I'm using Amsoil Heavy Duty Diesel 5W-30. Note that in Cali we already have ULSD and I'm (typically) running B50.

3" in 6k seems like an acceptable amount of blow-by to me. Any chance you overfilled the oil? Check it first thing in the morning - it takes a LONG time for the oil to drain back into the pan.

Also, are you doing a lot of high-speed running or towing?

Do not use the Amsoil 5W-30 diesel in your CRD. I sent the specs to VM Motori and they said not to use it. They stated that it lacked the viscosity to be used safely in warm weather.

My wife drives it during the week at really slow speeds. (max. 40 mph for 4 mile commutes to work)

I drive it like a nascar on the weekends. I typically run it over 3000 rpm every time i accelerate with it.

But that's just on the weekends.
