You can get florescent dye to put into the coolant, and then search using a UV source (LED flashlight, etc). They can be a bear to spot because the coolant can evaporate before it leaves a puddle you can spot.

If you haven't had any 'events' that point you in a particular direction (e.g. overheating, etc) - I'd try that right after as thorough visual inspection as I could muster.

One spot I'd want to look at closely is on the driver's side of the engine where the EGR cooler sits - difficult access.

X2 on the UV dye approach but be sure to drive on the order of 50miles+ after adding dye to the coolant tank on the firewall to be sure it's fully circulated and has time to leak. FYI all OEM hose clips are notorious for losing spring tension over the years resulting in one or more tiny leaks that often wind up going places that evaporate coolant before the leak can be seen.

Any pressure under the cap after a long drive?

How much coolant are you losing? I once had a problem with a mini van losing coolant over a longer period of time and it turned out to be a bad return line to the overflow. That was cheep to fix. Hard to find though. The way I was able to find it was by driving it to full operating temp and the park in the garage with the hood up, engine off and overhead door shut (to eliminate any breeze) shine a bright flashlight with a tight beam around the engine bay looking for a small/weak plume of steam.

Any white smoke from the exhaust? If so, your getting it into the combustion chamber or exhaust port. That would be bad. :grim:

My :2cents: , good luck.
