Hey all, I recently did the timing belt, replaced the fan clutch with the Hayden unit, replaced both air sensors, (airbox and boost sensors) and installed the hot tune from GDE. (Love that, by the way) I noticed today that I am indicating a lower coolant temp than before. I am sure that this is new, as I am familiar with the thermostat failure issues. Does anyone get a lower operating temp after the hot tune? After the fan clutch replacement? |

You probably need a new T-stat. |

What I am saying is that I have been looking at the temp gauge in anticipation of the T stat going bad, and now that I have performed the work noted I see a colder temp indicated. So, either the T stat has suddenly broken, (a coincidence) or the GDE Hot or the improved fan clutch tune results in a cooler running engine. So... has anyone noticed this, or am I putting an inline T stat in? |

If you are doing light load driving the GDE tunes will run slightly cooler due to burning less fuel and no heat transfer in EGR cooler. It may accentuate a failing thermostat. The life span of the t-stat seems to be about 5-8 years based on a high numbers of failures recently. |

Sawmilldon it would be helpful for those of us who reply if you could be a bit more precise than just that you are seeing lower coolant temperature. Where exactly on the temp gauge is to needle running? I have a newish OEM tstat (1.25 years old/6K miles) originally on the GDE EcoTune and currently with the Turbo tune. With just the EcoTune the gauge runs ca. 1/2 a needle width left of vertical. With the install of Kap's fixed fan (no fan clutch and larger blades than stock) before/after turbo tune the gauge runs a shade lower and tends to drop to an indicated 176F at idle. Bottom line is if your temp gauge indicates between 1 tick left of vertical and vertical when fully warmed up then the tstat is ok. If below 1 tick left of vertical tstat is on the way out. In my experience when the tstat starts to go the top temp on the gauge gradually gets lower and lower during cool weather. Here in N. Florida in hotter weather with AC on and a failing tstat I could reach vertical on the gauge but in the cooler months with no AC temp would not go above 3/8ths on gauge. FYI one of the advantages of the Hayden clutch is a lower "on" point than the stock clutch. That translates to the Hayden clutch will kick in almost as soon as the coolant temp in the radiator starts to rise which may cut the top off the temps you were seeing with the stock fan clutch. |

2nd CATCRD on Renault Medallion/Jeep Eagle thermostat. However, the main reason you are running significantly cooler after all your improvements is clearly the Hayden clutch. Even a good OEM is weak. DOC |

T-stat for sure. |

Reread his post. No change was made to the thermostat which was obviously and typically failing like everyone else's prior to the recent work. Ergo, running cooler than just before the work was done HAS to be due to something other than the thermostat. DOC |
