Friends, Romans, and CRD...Romans,

So, yeah, most of "we" CRD owners know that we need to have a specialized approach to maintaining our Jeeps. Our Jeeps are special. Special.

But here's the thing, we need parts, and not everything can be obtained from aftermarket sources.

So, my question is, how badly do we need Chrysler/MOPAR? What's the under/over on how important they are for maintaining the Jeep CRD?

I ask this because of a conversation that I had with my mechanic today. My Jeep went into the garage on February 22nd for a turbo charger replacement. We found out that we also needed the turbo oil return hose, we needed to replace the flywheel hub, the hub bolts, and the tranny seal. The Jeep is still there. The entire length of time has been due to waiting for parts. I even broke into the process and supplied the turbo charger, and bothered Keith at GDE to get me the return hose (thanks Keith!).

In my conversation with the mechanic, he let me know that since Chrysler's bankruptcy and reorganizing they have been getting continually worse with parts. Especially with Jeeps. A contributing factor being that they are dropping a sizable amount of their Jeep line.

So, what was once bad, is now baddy bad.

Part "getting" for the CRD, which was already a challenge, is now getting harder.

So, what do we do about that?

Smart A$$e$ need not apply.

I think that Chrysler, as a corporation, probably doesn't really care about customer retention as much as other car companies, they are in such a hole right now that all they really care about is getting new customers now. Much like the businesses of today that give great deals to new customers, but nothing to the consumers that already purchase there product (like cell and cable carriers).
As for your situation with getting parts, I would start to question the person selling your mechanic his parts, I work at a dealership currently, and worked at a couple of others in the past, and know a knowledgeable parts person that actually cares is somewhat hard to find. It might do you some good to start asking some questions yourself to the part supplier, and don't stop til you get some answers, if the person you are talking to doesn't have an answer, then have them ask someone and so-on, it a tedious annoying process, but it will usually get the job done.

Thank you greaser. I don't know about you guys, but I certainly cannot do 100% of the maintenance on my Jeep. The mechanics that I use are actually excellent and helpful. They have a process that they operate by, which includes going dealer direct. However, they are also willing to break their own cya habits in special situations - like the Jeep CRD.

I have interjected and snagged parts when I could. But the reality is, I can't jockey every single part. I don't have have the time.

I don't like to throw around four letter words, but here it is:
FIAT

Of course we are forbidden on this forum to discuss POLY-TICKS (many blood sucking parasites) but some THUGS from CHICAGO gave FIAT a sweet deal and shut down other investors who would have provided better customer service.

Sooner or later the Aftermarket will step in when the opportunity looks good the parts will be made. Just avoid CROWN Made in China Water Pumps.

I wonder when that will happen.

I order up all sorts of parts all the time and haven't had a problem in knowing how long it will take to get the part before I order it.

Sure the part may be backordered for a few weeks but I know when to expect it.

This is the first car (of around 40) that I've owned that has waited more than a week or so for parts. Sort of weird for a car, that to me, is so new. I havent found anything I cant get for my 1975 GMC motorhome, but a 2005 Jeep, lookout! Odd.

Huh? What makes you say that? (I'm actually a sound mixer, but I've never worked in radio at all, so I'm genuinely curious here)

Public Radio Stations often have the greatest State of the Art equipment (we all helped pay for) that no one there knows how to run. You have to crank up the volume to hear the announcer and put on your electronic ear protection so you don't go deaf when the music starts. Caling the PR doof running the sound equipment an Engineer is an insult to all engineers weather they do calculations or operate a train.
Your announcement was more like commercial radio and not a strain to understand, that is all. :)
