My CRD has about 140,000 miles on it...

Well you drive your vehicle and it gets a little loose in the steering department, you develope creaks and thumps, the front end wanders "just a bit" ...ect...

I did replace the front struts (OME), LBJoints and front sway bar bushings bushings last year at 112,000 miles but I still had a very slight thump...but I ignored it.

Well i just went thru the CRD and the Rack & Pinion Bushings were SHOT. The Rear Wishbone Bushings were both SHOT (the center bushing was still in good shape).

So, if you have some thumping that is noticeable from just running over a manhole cover ect. Might be time to check out some vital bushings.

probably half the reason why my front end makes so much noise. a mixture of worn out bushings with 167k and the sway bar disco's along with bad CV's. i'll have our mechanic check it out while he's working on the CV's

especially the steering rack...they are notorious for wearing out the bushings...throws out the alignment (cups tires) and makes noises

Hmm - Might be a cause for my clunking sounds that had cupped the tires (which then went away for reasons I cannot fathom)

I have checked the sway bar several times - Rock solid, and I can't seem to locate anything on the front end that IS loose.
Might be time for some professional assistance on this.

Darby.
Include the U joints on the rear drive shaft too
The dealer replace my steering rack for leaking under warranty and the front suspension all had to be dropped :banghead:
That resulted in the lower control arm bolts not being tightened or tightened enough that resulted in a clunk and rattles.

Cool, this will give me some things to check. I'm so tired of listening to the clunks from up front that I am tempted to get rid of this ride.

Thanks

Brake fluid. Almost nobody changes it as often as they should, but it sure wears out, and can cause all sorts of problems.

True on Dot 3 brake fluid and brake issues at very least change this stuff out. You will need friend, lots fluid grab 2 quarts,funnel,1/4inch tool I think to open it up. Lots of online videos, undo your battery while doing the change something with ABS valves. I found clear plastic in my lines, jeep stops pretty decent now. More fluid you can run through system better, without air obviously.

Brake fluid is easy to neglect. I picked up a tip somewhere of changing the brake fluid color each time. You can buy brake fluid in different colors; Ate sells blue and yellow fluid. When switching out the fluid, just keep bleeding until the fluid color changes.

Yup, that is what I do. Also use speed bleed screws, makes the job much faster.

What size speed bleeders did you buy for the KJ?

Never mind, They had an application chart at the site. SB3824 is the correct size for front and back 02-07 KJ
