Guys, is there simple way to test/check if the EGR is sticking/staying open or closed ? and what do you think the symptoms would be of either ?

If your CRD has the MAF sensor fitted then I would expect that it would post a code if the EGR was malfunctioning as that is its job. My 2002 CRD does not have the MAF and I have disabled the EGR. :)

Yeah mine has a MAF, but never had any code's ? which is kinda why I wondered what effect I would get if the EGR was playing up and for some reason it wasnt being detected ?

Cheers

the map sensor get dirtier with a working EGR..
the one under the engine cover. if you don't have to clean this then its stuck closed..if no code..forget it..

many of us have bought things to bypass the EGR or make in nonfunctional..SEGR/GDE..

Cheers for the relies fella's ... do the fault codes display on the dash when a fault is detacted ? or do you have to do something to veiw them ?

I ask because the garage is waiting for a couple of seals from Jeep, so they put the turbo back on useing the old gasket/seals so I could have the truck back in the meantime, but as a result its blowing like a 10 quid tart as I go through the gears :? (sounds like an open ended airline as the compressor lose's its pressure! ) .. surely a sensor "somewhere" should be having a fit with this happening ??

You have an export model KJ CRD, and export models do not throw EGR codes if it is disabled (According to GDE). However unplugging the MAF will raise a code. I have my EGR blocked off and no codes ever. If it is stuck open as indicated before you will get a dirty Boost Control Sensor (Aka MAP). If it is stuck closed don't worry about it.

Make an EGR flange gasket and forget to put the hole in the center.
No hole no flow.

Put to the test, unplugged MAF, drove to next town with no codes, then restarted and up comes the check engine light !! then has stayed on from that point ... if I plug MAF back in, should the check light go out at some point ?

I suspect it will after several drive cycles but how many I do not know. I've had tranny codes, due to fluid drain back induced stall, clear in like 5 drive cycles but IIRC some other codes take more like 20 cycles.

Ah right cheers matey

So it looks like my best course of action would to re-connect the MAF, and make a blanking plate for the EGR then once the check light has reset itself ?

Not sure but I think if you hookup the MAF and blank off the EGR I think it will throw a code again. :2cents:

Yep, it will. Only way to fool it is with a SEGR or a GDE tune.

Reduced EGR not no EGR. Lets keep it straight.
