I have been getting a loud squeal from the engine bay for a while now. It only occurs when the engine is under load beyond 2000rpm, and at the last bit of revolution during shutdown. I have no other symptoms. Serp belt was replaced with no change to the squeal, Alt was replaced as well.

Any thoughts?

I would check the serp. tensioning pulley

What is rubbing the PS pulley?

Chuckle if it was a Dodge D250 Cummins I'd tell you, from looong experience, that's the stock shutdown noise.

I suspect your serp belt tensioner may be weak or dying. It's not uncommon for a bad serp belt tensioner to "lean" to the side and impinge on the power steering pump, sometimes so badly as to make one think the power steering pump is frozen, see recent chat to that effect.

Is it a prolonged squeal of a brief chirp?

Something is leaning somewhere - Also check on the bolts for the alternator. You might want to actually remove them entirely to be sure, mine looked just fine, but in fact, 2 of the three (the bottom two) had completely sheared off and the alternator was *just enough* out of position to be howling in a similar fashion.

Here is the sound of the shut down, for obvious reasons I can't duplicate the 2k+, but it is very similar in pitch/tone. The sound occurs any time the engine is under load beyond 2k, or anytime there is a drastic increase in engine RPM.

Is there a way to test the tensioner for proper function? I am pulling the nose apart next week for a timing belt and water pump, so I can easily test it while I am in there.

BTW, CRD has 102,xxx miles.

Mine made a similar noise about 5 times before the Alternator went out.

May not be your issue, but it was mine.

decoupler pulley is bad. I replaced a customer pulley for same noise on shutdown.

I had a noisy chirping and it was the decoupler. That noise was constant at idle. So at higher RPM the pitch would probably change to out-of-human hearing range or general engine noise rose above it for me.

It's not the decoupler pulley... maybe air in the fuel, or maybe the ORM will fix it?

I will check the tensioner during the timing belt.
