My Jeep is likely overdue for a transmission service and my mechanic friend referred me to a guy that is supposed to be very famililar with Chrysler tranmissions. Overall I haven't been having any shudder or other serious symptoms, however I do get the occasional hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, and after reading a few threads on here about the fluid drain back problem I've found the revving the engine a little in neutral in the morning seems to alleviate this problem.
So anyway, aside from a fluid and filter change, and short of a new TC or anything that requires dropping the whole tranny, what else should I consider? Would a shift kit/transgo kit be worthwhile right now? And while we're on the topic, what are the advantages of adding a shift kit, other then "firming up the shift points". I don't do a lot of towing, but when I do it will be for longer distances with about a 1200lb trailer. Is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Just change the filterS and fluid. When I did mine, I had the front way up on ramps and let it sit for about an hour and was able to drain a lot of the fluid out. I am glad that I bought a case for the tranny and transfer case, because most of that case was used up. My wallet didn't like the cost of the case, though.

Okay a few more questions. Would I want to specify a transgo kit vs. another/generic shift kit? Can the transgo kit be installed during a normal tranny service? And could someone expand a little on the issue of tranny's "re-learning" after a shift kit and undoing any advantages you gained? I read a few posts regarding this during a search. Sorry if I'm beating this topic to death, I'm just trying to get my mind around it as I have a transmission service scheduled for next week and we need to get the parts/kit ordered ahead of time and I want to make a semi-informed decision about whether the shift kit is worth it or not.
