Ok, we got this 2006 CRD Monday with 48K miles. I was doing some reading on these forums and came across Sam's NOOB guide and decided to take his suggestions.

Changed the Air filter with a K&N, waiting on the fuel filter to get here and removed and cleaned the MAP sensor with kerosene.

It drove fine but after about 10 miles there is a whir starting at ~ 1000 rpms whenever the engine is under load. It gets louder with higher speeds. If I take my foot of the accelerator or when going down a hill the noise is greatly reduced.

It drives otherwise but I just don't know what is going on here, any thoughts? Do I drive it to the mechanic, have it towed, did I screw up something by cleaning the MAP sensor?

Thanks folks I would appreciate any advice.

Does it sound like a radiator fan whir? Any codes? Any excessive smoke?

Seeing that the way you are describing it, it happens under power. Does it happen in neutral when you rev it?

Seeing that you put a new air filter in, check the hose from the airbox to the turbo. Did you dislodge it? Ia it ripped? While you are there, if you decide to take it off, try spinning the turbo and see if it spins freely.

ChooChooman,
I don't have the availability to get the codes but there is no smoke and it really does not sound like it is coming from the fan. I have not tried it specifically in neutral but it is slightly there in park.

I will check the hose from the air box

I appreciate the advice

Is it just turbo? (As in nothing is wrong with it, it is just the noise that the turbo makes under normal operating conditions.)

Edited for a typo.

Yes, love the sound of that turbo. :SOMBRERO:
If your in white tail deer country it also makes a great substitute for "deer whistles" commonly used to keep deer out of the road.
