| Post subject: | Rear Diff Oil Question |
I looked at WM and Pep Boys for the 75W140 syn diff oil since I do tow occasionally. There were several choices, Previously I used Mobil 1 and Royal Purple now they have their own brands and Mobile 1, now both say they are approved for limited slip but I have an 06 which does not have a limited slip. Does it matter if the lubricant has the limited slip additive and I do not have a limited slip diff? Is there any reason not to use a house brand if it meets the Jeep spec? |

It won't harm. I went in the middle and used 80w110 or was it 75w110 for my occasional towing. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2 |

I can't find 'specs' for diff lube. The owner manual and FSM both give the same weight of lube recommendations. WalMart has full syn GL-5 75-140 for about half price of Mobil One which is about 20 bucks a qt. here. |

Why not put better gear oil in? In this case synthetic gear oil is the worst as far as gear oil and hence the very short OCI's for syn gear oil(12k-15k OCI's).Just put in dino 80w-90 if not towing or dino 85w-140 if towing, you diffs will be much happier and last alot longer not to mention being much cheaper. I run a pro built rear diff, high dollar and they only recommend dino 85w-140 only.Warranty voided if syn gear oil used. |
