I usually run Pure One oil filters on my CRD, but I decided to buy a NAPA (Wix) Platinum oil filter because it looked like a darn good filter. I went to the Wix and Napa site and crossed that same filter, and evidently it is the same filter used on gassers. My question is will it be alright to run it? The Pure One filters only fit our CRD and a few Fords for a narrow number of years. The Wix fits a bunch of stuff. I have seen that some of you folks are running bigger filters, which I personally do not want to do. I want to stick with the "stock" filter size. I know of at least one with over 160K running nothing but Pure One filters and Rotella T6 5w40. Can't argue with success...

My other observation is that when I run the Mobil 1 0w40, my oil stays very clean all the way to the 4500 mile oil change interval I have been using. When I run the Rotella T6 5w40, it gets dirty quickly. I realize that diesel oil gets dirty fast, I have rebuilt and owned many diesel engines. I ran 0w40 in several Volvo (VW) diesel vehicles, as well as some TDI's, with great success, and upon disassembly (for non oil related failures), there was no measurable wear, or very little wear after 100K+ when using the M1 0w40. I am wondering why the CRD oil stays cleaner longer with one vs. the other. I know some on here disagree with using the 0w40, but my personal opinion is that the Rotella T6 5w40 and M1 0w40 are both good oils and will work well in our CRD's. :2cents:

I use NAPA Gold number 1516 oil filters on my CRD.
I used to use Pure-1 filters until I compared the filter media area on various brands. Some have a lot more pleats then others.
Compare the CRD's NAPA GOLD #2329 air filter with the Pure-1 filter and you'll be shocked :juggle:
WIX does make filters for NAPA and if you drop the first number from the WIX part number you'll have the NAPA number.
I buy filters from http://www.fleetfilter.com/ If you buy a supply for a couple of vehicles you save on shipping and it's well worth it :2cents:

I can't answer your oil question but it would seem the Rotella T6 is holding the soot in suspension better then the Mobil one. I'm currently using Mobil-1 TDT oil and with my GDE tune neither oil getts black like on my past diesels.
I too have owned many diesels in the past, mostly VW's and 2 were tdi's including a 1982 Datsun King Cab diesel and used Rotella 15/40 including in my 1996 Passat tdi Wagon then on my second tdi, a 1999.5 jetta, I switched to synthetic. I've seen the hatch marks from honing on several VW's that were way past 100k miles. I suspect it was the high nickle content of the iron used in the blocks.
I once owned a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE wagon turbo diesel. Other then past abuse from a former owner the engine was great but the ZF transmission was not so durable :SOMBRERO:

My CRD has only had 0-30 when boutht it new. If you look at the factory service for the "export" CRD's I think you'll find a thicker oil specified.

I use the Napa/Wix filters as well on my Liberty and Land Cruiser. Before I went this route I used all different brands and sizes with no problems. Mainly used the different brands becuase wherever I stopped in to buy a filter never had the same brand I used before in stock. Now I just go to NAPA becuase they always have the filter I need/want in stock.

Yeah, it's the suspension capability of the oil. Rotella T6 is a CI-4 oil and Mobil1 (assuming it's the normal one) is a CF oil. The soot is still there regardless.

I've been running with Delvac 1 0W40 and Wix filters since new and the oil is always black as the ace of spades by mid interval. It's doing what it's designed to do i.e. holding the soot in suspension rather than letting it drop out as sludge. Having just switched from ORM to GDE eco tune I'll be interested to see if there's any difference in opacity as others claim.
