Post subject:  Quick Frankenlift (on a CRD) install quesiton...

So, I'm getting all the tools and such together to install my frankenlift in the morning. Based on advice of a few others on the board, I'm staying with the factory upper arms for now. Most (all) of the decent how-tos for installation show separating the upper arm from the steering knuckle before working on the strut assembly. Is this really needed (i.e. room required to get in there and work on the clevis) or is it just prep for arm replacement? I'd like to know so I don't have to disassemble anything unnecessary in the morning, working with a tight timeline already.

Thanks.

To make it easier
remove
brake caliper, tie it up out of the way
tie rod end
UCA, has to be removed to allow the LCA to drop down to get everything out
sway bar link, reinstall after it is on the wheels
then clevis etc
no special tools needed
tie rod end and UCA will knock loose with a BFH, one good hit each
on CRD may or may not need rachet straps to pull the clevis in

Okay, the brake caliper makes sense..as does removal of the UCA ball joint. Is the tie rod end also for droop factor?

I guess I just need a 21mm socket and box wrench now (don't know why I don't already have that size) and perhaps some replacement caliper slider pins/bolts...just in case they're shot when I get in there and take a look.

I pop the tie rod end loose that way you can swivel the spindle around to work, takes 2 seconds to take it off otherwise you'll be turning the wheels back and forth etc
and it does allow it to drop a little bit more
just easier and faster, for me at least
Doesn't take long for any of it to come off

I would really recommend the UCA's my CRD did not drive well will with out them or align... you may have different results.
