Or should I get a better quality one? Doesn't anyone know if the Mr gasket pump is a flow through pump?

Just looked at it. Looks like it should do the job.

I had one for about 60K miles...it croaked. I don't know the expected longevity of them. I never changed that little prefilter on mine so that may have done it in prematurely. Otherwise it worked great.

Had two of them, I'm not sure they are much worse than the Facet pump for more money... First one broke because I didn't mount it securely enough and it stressed the outlet - That is a little brass thing just pressed into the plastic. IT WILL NOT support much side-loading.

Of course it broke on the pressurized side, so it dutifully pumped out about 1/4 tank before the engine stalled. Yea, THANKS for wasting almost your full value in fuel! :banghead:

Second one worked just fine. Parts store also had another design (can't remember exact brand name, but it was Autozone) that was all metal exterior, mounting was a band clamp with a rubber sleeve. More expensive than the Mr Gasket, looked better too. I never got a chance to try that on my CRD, but IIRC, it was like $75 or so.

35K so good so far!
Mounted it right after the fuel tank in line so fuel can be pushed. Could tell difference : quieter engine, better smoother idle and acceleration, in 5th higher speed vs RPM ie before supplement pump: speed was 63 MPH at 2000 RPMs , after: speed 70 at 2000 rpm.
Do not know if this flows through. I wired this to the fuel pump 12v feed line so I may try to pull that fuse and test this and let everyone know. By the way installation both wiring to that dedicated 12v line and actual install was easy and quick. Even installed a heavy cover plate to protect for off road.
I bought two of these things as they are pretty cheap and simply keep 2nd one on board as quick replacement if 1st one fails.
Fuel pump has a little 100 micron cylinder shaped filter so I may look into getting a replacement.
Complete pump cost me $48 ea so and considering ease of install this mod is very well worth it.
I'll try that fuel pump 12v disconnect soon and report back if this thing can flow thruogh.

For what it's worth I think the Facet (40109) may be a bit more durable; at least it's housing is all metal. I did find the Facet a bit hard to find locally (NAPA offered to order for what I'd call a "price") but http://www.yachtsupplydepot.com/mechani ... t_697.html had it for about $45+shipping. I know the Facet is flow thru but whatever you install, especially if you put it in the engine bay where it's easy to see, I'd be inclined to install a see thru pre-filter between the tank and the pump.

Facet inline flow through lift pump mounted in the engine bay by the battery. Facet has been around for years. No need for more than 4.7lbs of constant pressure to keep the fuel filter filled and the high pressure pump happy.

Just a quick questions, don't fuel pumps like to push fuel not suck fuel? Wouldn't it be better if the inline pump was close to the tank? Or am I all wrong?

Closest is better. Mine is on the xmember in front of the tank. I tapped into the factory lift pump wiring.

The only kind of pump that totally "pushes" fuel is one in the fuel in the tank; every other pump "pulls" fuel to one degree or another. In fact for decades most vehicles, until relatively recently, had a fuel pump mounted on the engine block and directly driven by a cam to pull fuel from the tank.

The down side of the pull design is that it can be hard to prime an empty line especially with "thicker" fuel like diesel. Other than that they work just fine IF the fuel line is solid unfortunately today's fuel lines often are not solid due to inline quick disconnect fittings.

In the ideal world on the CRD an intank pump is best but if not an inline pump will help and ideally low and near the tank is better but plenty of folks do just fine with the pump in the engine bay.

I suspect but don't know for sure that no extra pump is needed if one replumbs the fuel supply line to delete all the quick disconnect fittings in favor of high quality solid "rubber" fuel line.

Bought one at the local auto shop and it's been mounted under my hood for a few months now works fine

In regards to the clear prefilter... I have recently installed a facet pump that way and was slightly disturbed to see air in the clear prefilter. Is this other peoples experience. I cannot get any air to bleed out of the fuel head and the priming bulb is very firm. Any thoughts?

I always see air bubbles going through the clear filter ahead of the Facet. Don't worry - if the pump is doing its job they go right through and will never accumulate in the filter head. The plunger is hard as a rock.

I have a clear filter in front of my facet too and can see air in it also.
I think it has to do with the orientation of the filter.
If the filter was orientated vertical, there would be no air, but because its
mounted horizontal there will always be a space for air to accumulate.
My facet is mounted in the engine bay an works great.
I fabricated a bracket and mounted it on the engine.
The bracket attaches to one of the alternator bolts and one of the bolts
on the side of the intake manifold.

CAT and Flash, Thanks for the reassurance, as I have never see this mention in any other inline fuel pump posts.
