Reading these forums makes me think only bad things happen when you own a Diesel Libby. Hearing some good stories would ease my mind about the purchase I will soon be making. |

When people have issues, they search for answers. Not many people would search the net to find a forum just to say "I love my CRD". Well, I do love mine, even with the issues. I met a guy at a campground outside of Hershey and he loves his. He uses it as a toad behind his diesel pusher motorhome. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2 |

I do like mine, sure it has issues but so do some other cars out there. With regular and scheduled maintinance I expect for mine to stay running for a long time. What other vehicle out there can get me to my favorite fishing spots on rough and rutted dirt roads while still getting 30+ MPG's on long roadtrips? For me the CRD fits just exactly what I need. I once went 16,000 miles without a check engine light or component failure and that was by far my favorite experience!. BTW, that 16k miles was a record! No, other cars don't have as many issues. My neighbor across the street has 2 Toyotas, each was over 180k miles on them. My other neigbor as a Toyota with 190k miles and runs like new. I've owned over 30 cars now in the past 25 years (most were Nissan) and my Liberty has had more maintenance problems than any of my previous vehicles combined and that is not an exaggeration. Other great experiences include: a. Learning how to replace: (1) EGR (2) AFC (3) Water pump 3k miles after timing belt job (4) Alternator pulley (5) Glow plugs 2 times (6) CAC hoses (7) Cooling fan (8) Thermostat twice (9) Rewire wiring to ABS sensors (10) many more problems I care not to post. b. Currently having a blast with replacing my tranny and torque converter. c. My next and greatly anticipated experience will be trading it in for a new vehicle; I can't wait! Curious, very few CRDs were built but a disproportionate CRDs are in the for sale section of this forum. |

Owning a CRD is a bit like gambling. It's fun while you're winning but you need to give it up at some point or eventually you'll lose your shirt. |

Being a mechanic for more than 30 years. I cant say to much good other than it's a powerfull little engine, when its runing well. I have not have had nearly the problems most have had. I dont depend on it every day i have several forms of transportation. If you asked me, unless you can work on them i would RUN away from buying one! |

No issues 2006, 108K, 85K on my watch. Changed the timing belt at 102k, ehm at 35K, GDE ecotune at 45K, inline tstat at 95K, Suncoast at 105K, removed the stock fan, FIA Blanket when under 40. Stay on your maintenance schedule. I drive it 100 mi a day. Parked outside, block heater under 32 4 hours prior to use. Now that I wrote it, everything is going to fail. Hopefully, the glows will never fail. |

I had mine a year just love it. I done a timing belt and belts and hoses. But they are not new any more . Just make sure the timing belt is changed before a 100000 miles. Change your fuel filter head, glow plug , check turbo for play. I enjoy the Jeep. It worth more than you will pay. |

Yes, exactly like that... Except the chances that you will get the expensive mistress are much higher than you think. This is also the type of mistress that enjoys seeing pain and blood, and will take great glee in causing it in you. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

I now strongly feel that if you made it to 100k miles on your stock torque converter, it now time for an ugrade to the TC and front pump as preventative maintenance. My TC grenaded in my transmission-metal chunks and filings everywhere. Better yet, if you made it to 100k, preventative vehicle replacement wouldnt be a bad idea. After I replace my tranny, I expect the turbo to go out and destroy the engine....hopefully it'll make it to the dealership so I can get a new one I'll miss my CRD, I love diesels but its about as painful as owning a VW TDI which is why I always sold my TDIs before the warranty expired. Speaking of TDIs....AVOID ANY OF THE NEW ONES unless you plan on saving up for the eventual high pressure fuel pump replacement which will set you back $8000 out of warranty and if in warranty, VW will blame fuel contamination and stick it to you anyway. |

Diesel's are built to last. My last 3 had 200k plus miles with no mods, just normal maintenance. Having one of these CRD's is for people who like to work on things, cause you have to. It works for me but would not be for everyone. Not a quality Jeep. |

I think u are better off buying one that is broken like I did. I spend 4200.00 on my 2006. It a 137000 miles. I did timing belt and turbo hoses. Put a tune from green diesel on the Jeep. I at 153000 and haven't did much but fluids. I think u can get into trouble trying to work on it your self. If your not real good!! Take it for what it worth. If only had it a year. |

Do you want a form of transportation or a hobby? This isn't the former. While diesels in general might be "built to last" ... This is not like most diesels. Something is severely mis-designed in these that virtually eliminates the chances of high mileage engines, to say nothing of the 400k mile examples that abound over on the VW TDI side of things. They have flaws too, but longevity or durability isn't one. The CRD is not a car, it is a hobby with wheels. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Mine runs on Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) for the last 70K plus miles. In that time I have changed the timing belt and the front ball joints, and Thermostat and low pressure switch on the A/C. All nomial or regular maintiance. I did EHM and ORM at 72k miles when I got it, I spent about $20 on I think those made the biggest difference in it runs so well for so many miles. I have changed the oil every other month at this point. My wife drives her "Jeepy" to work 5 days a week 120 miles round trip. She goes 150 miles for every gallon of diesel fuel I buy for her. I have a 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI that also runs on WVO and she does not like to drive it. She likes her Jeep better! Last 5 VW's I had were all diesels and they all sucked! Everything went wrong with those things. Last Toyota I had require timing belts that cost more than on these Jeeps. And parts were blowing out on it all the time. Last Honda broke every single year we had it. Everyone said "well that is a maintiance item" BS it broke and needed replaced. All those foriegn cars make my Jeep look like the most reliable thing around. If they did not make a diesel Jeep Liberty, I would never have purchased a Jeep. |

I've had a pretty decent experience so far with mine, but I want a lot more from it before I'll call it a good experience. I have owned it since new and currently at 114K. In addition to the mods listed in my sig I've changed motor mounts, thermostat, and done all the scheduled maintenance. Nobody has worked on it but me and this is actually one of my concerns. I haven't found a garage yet that has a clue with these unicorns. |

ChooChooman74 wrote: When people have issues, they search for answers. Not many people would search the net to find a forum just to say "I love my CRD". What he said, to which I'd add: None of the issues I've had with mine have anything to do with the motor itself, rather Chrysler's usual, half-arsed "engineering". But with a few well-documented tweaks/fixes here and there, mine's closing in on 140,000 miles The KJ shares garage space with a 2002 Xterra, and the only thing the KJ does better is fuel mileage/towing; 27mpg average versus 18. In every other way, the Nissan is hands-down the better truck. |

Bought a new 2005 in feb of 06. Had some issues with the filter head sucking air finally added in-tank lift pump and no issues until I lost turbo @ 86,000($1,700 parts & labor). Replaced t-stat, intake and cac hoses. My biggest complaints are the turbo failing and the fabric on the seats that stain if you look at it wrong. Runs 100% biodiesel perfectly in warmer weather and 50/50 in winter. So at 24 mpg avg cty/hwy, petro @ $4.00/gal, bio @ $1.20/gal it costs about $.11/ mile in the winter and $.05/mile in the summer. Would I buy another one having known what I was in store for? Most likely yes. Without the support of this forum-NO. Still a little sour over the turbo 2 months ago but overall happy. cost of maint. lift pump $215 battery $150? (couldnt find my record on battery) oil changes ($110/yr) $715 fuel filters 1/yr @ avg $32 ea $192 cleanable foam air filter $65 t-stat & fluid $130 turbo $1700 tranny fluid change $195 total $3,362 over 6 1/2 yrs Still have the timing belt coming up within the next year. better mpg and way more power than the rav4 my wife used to drive and a lot more fun. |
