So my jeep started making a funny noise a few weeks ago. I don't drive it very much this time of year and have kind of put off working on it. The noise has steadily grown worse. I used to only hear it occasionally but now it is every time I let off the gas. I have also started to notice a slight vibration on acceleration. I googled driveline noise, did some reading and think it might be my u joints. I found a video of a guy with a jag making the same noise. I was wondering if some of you guys could listen to it and let me know what you think. Not all the clunking his makes but the whine you can hear really well at the 20th second. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP_pARVQXps Also, I messed up my rear diff and had it replaced about 4 months ago. I did replace it with used parts but the were in great condition. So I don't think that's what it is. |

Not sure I hear the noise but things to look at: 1. CV joints but they tend to be noisey on turns not straight line. 2. Might be engine mounts, see recent posts and diagnosis. 3. "U" joints are possible - lots of posts to the effect that they cannot be accurately checked on the vehicle 4. drive shaft slip joint can make noise on deceleration - cure appears to be to grease the joint. |

I had a noise very similar to this when I was letting the gas go.. I replaced my u-joint and its all fine now. Easy, cheap, and worth it. |

It was the u joints. Easy fix. No noise or vibration anymore. Thanks Guys. |
