Pulled transmission today. No metal in the fluid or filters. How do I get the front plate out to look inside, snap ring is out. Pumps?? torque converter?

I can't think of a way to pull the front cover without damaging it. The factory service manual say to push it out from the back thru the oil pan but Sir Sam and I couldn't figue out that one.

There is a large ring around the outside of the cover and a smaller one at the center. If you have the new style front pump there is no snap ring at the center. With both rings removed it should come out quite easily.

Are you speaking form experience? I damaged two front covers trying to remove them. Fortunately, when you buy an upgraded front pump (single snap ring), it comes with a new front cover for it. We had to bang in the new cover using a mallet and wood to ensure the cover was press fit snug enough so snap ring could be installed.

When I replaced my TC and front pump about 1-1/2 years ago I had trouble removing and damaged the original front cover because I didn't realize there was a snap ring at the center of the cover. After removing the snap ring the cover came off easily. The cover with the new front pump went on without any problem. If I remember correctly I put a light coating of grease on the O-ring on the new front cover before installing and carefully tapped it on with a hammer and a block of wood.
