Hi I need to replace my battery in my 05 CRD. I hear the OPTIMA YELLOW TOP will fit. Does anyone know what size or part number that I should use? Thanks, Bill

The yellow top I put in mine is part number SC34DA. It fits the tray just fine. But the posts on the one I have are kind of far from the edge, requiring me to forcibly flatten out the 90º bend in the leg of the NEG (-) clamp. But it works just fine.

I put a Yellow top 34 in mine - and it died in 2 years -
Optima's aren't what they used to be -
try the Sears P1 much better quality.

I did a Yellow top and I couldn't be happier...well, my wallet is lighter than I'd like. The Yellow top is much more suited to cold starts with the high-amp draw of the glow plug circuit.

I had to finally bite the bullet and replace my OEM battery. Went with the Sears P1 at about $200.

I replaced mine with an Odessey this summer. A little more money than a Sears and slightly higher spec although optima supposedly makes the Sears battery. Sears is on my poop list though so they won't be seeing anymore of my dimes. Group 34.

I just replaced my Red Top with a "normal" Battery It is a Group 34. Just get the biggest one you can. It was a direct replacement, no wire problems. The blanket that was around the Red Top was to small to go on the new battery. :pepper:

I always thought that Optima batteries were:
Yellow to connect equipment : fridge, wintch....
Blue for boat
And red for starting car up....
...I just put a new red top on my KJ...
Love it !

With the original Red top my CRD always cranked slow. Eventually I bought a new red top but to my dissappointment it too cranked slow :banghead:
Online investigation at the Optima site I found that the "full charge" voltage of their batteries is 12.6 volts.
With glow plugs and sensitive computer systems in Liberties in general 12.6 volts maximum is just plain not enough for cold starts.
I put the second red top in my wife's XJ and bought a Sears P1.

I think Cowcatcher meant to say the Sears P1 is rumored to be made by odessey, not optima who makes the red yellow and blue tops like Wonder Bread's red yellow and blue balloons :ROTFL:

Topan - it would be interesting if your battery was made in Europe (the original Optima before they came to the US)

or if it's imported from Mexico - like the current US batteries.

My original red top is on its last legs I guess I'm going to sears to get a new P1. They're on sale for $197 Ouch!!!! I am going to keep the optima though. I guess 7 or so years and 167K miles isn't bad for a battery.

The gray cased Diehard Platinum Series batteries are made by Odessey. The non-platinum gray cased Diehard batteries are Exide batteries(the much cheaper AGM's).

I had a Sears P1 take a crap in my motorhome that was a 2009 last year. I found it's no better than any other and Sears wouldn't stand behind it. I replaced it with an OPTIMA marine blue top.

Duh :goink:
The P stands for platinum and the case is gray
So YOU have verified the P1 is made by Odessey

Yes they are.I have both the Odessey PC1500 and the Diehard P4,both are identical and both made by Enersys.

I don't mean to Hijack this thread but my local Sears is out of the P1 & P4 what is the difference with the Marine platinum? Aside from the obvious threaded posts on top.
This one http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinum-marine-battery-group-size-34m-price/p-02850134000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

Love all the input. Good question about the marine battery I was wondering the same. Seems that the p1 is the people's choice but the yellow top has some believers and it will match my samco yellow hoses lol

Earlier this year the battery on my Acura died and i got a replacement from Kirkland (Costco) with 3 Yr warranty for 80 bucks or so, the point being Costco could be and inexpensive option with legendary warranty service.

 I hadn't thought about it matching the Samco yellow hoses. I would like to see a photo of that. 8)
