I need some shocks on my CRD. These origionals are SHOT! I could use a little help deciding.

About my Jeep
I tow a Travel Trailer
I would eventually like an OME lift (Maybe Late summer or next year)
I don't wheel, maybe take it out on the beach.

My questions
I am deciding between Bilsteins and Rancho 9000 Adjustables - Anyone with experience with either
When I do an OME lift, do I need longer shocks? Or do the stock size work for it.

Great Question with 120,000 on the clock i am in the same boat. Was looking into doing a lift in the spring but thanks to E. Hunter Harrison thats getting put on hold. Hope there are some good responses. I do know for a future lift stock shock size will limit proper travel that a lift can give you.

if you do lift it you will need longer rear shocks, the front shocks are the same length lifted or stock.

I am a big fan of the Bilstein 5100's I have used the 5150's as well. The only differences with the 5150 is a piggy back reservoir which you probably do not need if you are not taking it off road. These would be for the rear only.
I
I have not had experience with the Bilstein front struts on the Liberty. I have OME now up front and I have been happy with them. I am currently running the Rancho 5000 series in the rear and they are not bad but I have certainly ran better shocks.

Wow, priced OME front struts. $160.00 a piece
Are they that much better than Bilsteins? My CRD's are not lifted, but I want good control since I pull a trailer.

what are the indications of bad shocks? in the old days you just pushed on the bumber and if the car bobbed up and down more than a couple times they were bad.

Pretty much the same as then. Also if you have more then 50k they are pretty much shot, industry standard is 50k for shock life, higher end shocks like OME and Bilstiens generally have twice the life of standard shocks but at almost twice the cost.Of course if they are leaking there done.

Stock, no lift, no wheeling, towing jeep liberty. What would you run?

Bilistiens with new coils all around, stock rate coils like from MOOG unless you want some lift then go OME 790/948's.

the reason i asked is mine make noises when I go over bumps on the up travel not the down. I got almost 90K so I'll look for some new shocks maybe a lift job.

If the squeak or noise derives from underneath the front of the vehicle, then it's the antisway bar bushings..... This noise happens to all of our CRD's during the cold winter months, nothing to worry about if it's that, it goes away when the warm weather returns.
