Im new to here but not new to the diesel world. Growing up on a farm and construction buisness I have worked on my share of diesels. I have always had ford diesel vehicles until my wife bought here 05 CRD and I bought a 06 VW jetta. I did the timing belt the other day and when started up it revved high and then smoothed out. Didn't concern me much and I went ahead and kept putting it back together. I am to the point of starting to put the front lights and grill back on and I wanted to start it after having all of the sensors back in. To my disappointment it still revs high and then back down. The only thing I know to do is to pull it all apart relock the motor and ensure my injection pump timing marks line up. Any insite on this is greatly apperciated! Thanks |

The fuel pump has a factory. Did you keep everything else in time with the pins? |

I had made a mark on the pump get and the back case for alingment, but I dont think it was lined up when I reassembled. Yes the cams and the crank were all locked with the VM locking pins. In theroy the style of pump timing it shouldnt be needed but I have it torn apart and I am retracing my steps |

Unlike the old IDI, the commonrail just supplies fuel pressure and the injectors go off electronically. I haven't heard anyone else talk about any timing on the pump. Will run if pump timing is off, but not as well as it should. I forget the technique used to restore timing to stock at the timing belt "party" I attended, but it came from Geordi. DOC |

I was just on the Cummins forum doing research, which runs a CP3 pump, and there is no timing needed. I can't see why ours needs it. It just supplies pressure. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD |

Ok here is the scoop. I tore it apart, locked the crank and both cams with the pins, lined up my mark I put on the fuel pump, tightened the timing belt and started the engine (after turning it by hand to ensure nothing was hitting). It starts up and revs to 1850-1900 immediately, then comes down to a normal idle, a little bit of a rough idle but I have so much off the motor to dampen sound, that I think the roughness is just noise. The only thing I can figure causing the high rev is something electronic. Does anyone have any ideas, or is there someone I can call on this. Im located west of Dayton, Ohio. Thanks again |

I've done quite a few belts, I've noticed a similar pattern when first starting them up after a belt change with stuff disconnected, starts up, revs a little high, and then settles down to normal RPM after about 2-3 seconds. |

The lack of accessory load is probably messing with the low idle governor. The ECM has to throttle back without all the accessories providing drag. |

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD There is timing on the pump but it's not critical. The pump just supplies pressure, but there is some ripple to it. Having the timing correct lines up better the pressure waves from the 3 piston pump to our 4 cylinder injection events. We're only talking a few % here though. The topic has come up here several times. |

I'D thought about the lack of accessory load, to verify this I put all the front accessories on and still the same thing. It doesnt matter how many times you start it, it revs high every time? Im puzzled |
