This is GDE tow tune///
This tune engages 4th gear unlock at 35mph, 4th at 46mph and 5th at 70mph.
Optimized for fuel efficiency in city driving conditions with speeds below 58mph.
Increased lock-up lowers transmission fluid temps and lock-to-lock shifting is enabled to make the shifts quicker and crisper.
The tune keeps the trans in 4th gear lockup between 46mph and 70mph, which is perfect for towing heavy loads and mountain driving.
Additionally, once 70 mph is reached and the shift to 5th is completed, the vehicle can be slowed down to 50 mph and will maintain 5th gear.
Variations on the lock-up schedule are available upon request for customers with special needs.

I'm wanting to take 3rd to 55 and 4th to 75 then shift to 5th. At 63 back to 4th below 50 back to 3rd.

Looking for some input from CRD owners that is using the tow tune. Your likes and what you would change for towing.

I got the tow tune, customized to shift 5th at 65, because I don't tow over 60. I have not towed with it, but will. I will need my speedo calibrated though, because the shift points are dead on the speedometer, but they shift too early because it is off.

I do feel that there may be a need to manually shift more while towing. But I will know in a few weeks.

Mine shifts into 5th at 63 now. Most of the time I'm in 3rd at 60 to hold speed up hills. Hoping for better results from 4th gear lock up. I tow at 70 most of the time. I would like to do that in 4th .

Have had it since the prototype stage (3 years?). Love it. we tow 5K lbs all the time. Really essential to do that without a lot of revving/lugging.

If you would like the third to four gear shift for economy when empty, you should be able to hold or shift back to third gear with the overdrive switch on the gear shift knob.

I believe Keith can delay shifting to 5th to 75. Contact him.

I've talked to Keith planning on ordering this weekend. Just wanting a little input for a custom shift for towing. MPG not really a issue for me. JEEP over doubles my last truck on MPG.

tcoilburner Thats a good point. Trying to make it easy for my wife to drive sometimes. But I bet she could do that for sure. I think the basic tow tune would work. I think it shifts a little early for my liking.

There may be some companies that do manual shifters for 545rfe. A quick google didn't return any satisfactory results, but I'll look again later and if I find something I can post back. Xj's aw4 tranny has a kit, below is a link, as an idea:

Maybe Keith & his gang come up with something similar...
