Post subject:  Cant read any codes... need some help please

I have an 06 crd with all of the recalls done:( it was a state vehicle in Georgia so it got all of the dealer maintenance. It has 80,000 miles with the ORM (3500 miles so far) as i save for the ECO tune. The issue is i cant read any codes and need help! I have used three readers so far with no luck, Acutron pocket scan, Innova 3100, Innova 3130. Did any of the recalls ruin my chance of reading codes? Any suggestions of readers that work? I have poured through hundreds of posts all taking about readers working on the 05 but hardly any on the 06... Any help would be great!!! :?: :?: :?:

Well looks like you've tried a few different ones, I don't know about the 06 models but the acutron 9125 will pick up the ORM on my 05. I just tryed it yesterday got p0102 i think that's the number. My recall isn't as good as it used to be. My 05 has had the recalls also. I picked it up a couple weeks ago and love it. You would think there wouldn't be that much difference between an 05 vs 06. Maybe someone will give some light on this.

The 06 is Can Bus, my Innova 3160 works on my 06s but it looks like you tried the 3100 and that should be pretty close. There was another member that failed the NYS inspection because the state computer would not read his OBD, however the dealers reads it fine, and the state is giving him the shaft.

BTW, do you have a CEL?

I do have a CEL from the ORM and who knows what else... I really wanted to check the manafold pressure ( i think) to asses the rocker condition. On a whim i bought the "ELM327 V1.5 Bluetooth OBD2 OBD-II CAN-BUS Auto Diagnostic Scanner Tool" hopefully that works to some extent :banghead: We will see, I really love this car but i am not going to lie this is a little annoying...

Are the scanners communicating with the ECM? If not look in the wiring diagram for the fuse that powers the data port.

Good idea, the 2006 wiring diagram shows fuse 33 (10 A) going to the data port. :)

I can tell you for sure the Innova 3100 works on my 2006 but it can be a touch temperamental i.e. it sometimes requires repeated retries to get results.

I've also had luck with the elm327 bluetooth.

I just bought the elm327 bluetooth adapter hopefully that works. I checked the #33 fuse and it was not blown. On Friday i should know if the elm327 will work...

Torque Pro works great on our '05 with ELM 327. Innova 3030 works great too, for engine codes ONLY. However, '06s are a little different.

I use Torque Pro with and ELM adapter on my 06 with no issues. I also used to have a cheap $30 dollar codereader that could read and clear most codes with no issues.

Guys, this is not an engine you can "CHEAP OUT" on, especially on the 06.

GDE sells the installer for their tunes for $195, it also reads all the codes on the Liberty and erases them.

Anything else is pretty much a gamble unless you take it to the dealer.

Unless Keith jumps in to correct me as far as I know the GDE tuner/code reader will reliably read codes stored in the ECU but will not read TCM or BCM only codes. For that you need access to dealer or dealer equivalent code readers and IIRC the 05 and 06 need different code dealer code readers to access ALL computer system codes and data.

Update, used the bluetooth torque app with no luck :( It could read the rpm and that is just about it. It could not read the MAP, I wanted to check the rocker condition with no luck. I also checked the "Legendary Harbor Freight Cheap Code Reader" with no luck also GRRRR. Is there anything out there that will actually say there is a code and what it is!!! All the readers so far all say there is no codes on the system...

If you know anyone who owns a VAG-COM, for VW's, that's now called something else it will read 2006 engine sensors and codes fine. Expensive for what it will do for a CRD but a fantastic tool for VW owners.
BUT there was a flash prior to the F37 that caused third party scanners not to work. I believe that F45 may have been the cure for it. The bad flash basically did what f37 does to reduce power and change shift points. Since third part scanners would not work it was against EPA requirements and the F45 was an offocial recall. I got the bad flash and no third party scanners.
So if you do get the GDE unit it may not work for the above reason or another.
For giggles check the jeep site for outstanding recalls.

Mine recently did this, and my Harbor Freight scan tool had always worked previously. Try unplugging the ECM under the hood (drivers side) and waiting a minute or so, and then plug it back in. Not sure if I had a loose connection or if I needed to reset something, but it resolved my annoying issue.

I think you're probably using the wrong protocol. I made this mistake to start with. You need to select ISO 9141-2 (5b init, 10.4k baud) as the preferred protocol. I've also noticed that it sometimes disconnects but then manages to reconnect but auto selects the wrong protocol which only gives rpm.

That was is it!!!!!! it finally worked!!! :D :D Was able to read both codes: P1267, P0102, and a MAF reading of 17.8-18.0 g/s. So happy valves are in good shape. I preformed ORM as soon as i got it at 73,000. So i was not sure if the damage had already been done. So relived!!!! Thank you to all who helped me, especially Dirtmover!!!
Could not have done it without you guys!!
