Post subject:  Who supplied the CRD thermostat?

I've been looking to replace my thermostat and checked the original equipment one on the engine to see who made it. There is a logo cast on it but nothing I have ever seen before and certainly not Mopar, Chrysler symbol, or VM. Does anyone know who supplied the original ones?

Are there more suppliers now? I noticed that Crown seems to be selling them through various parts retailers. and some suppliers, like Morris 4x4 list theirs as original Mopar but that's hard to believe when mine doesn't say that on it.

Any info on thermostat suppliers?

My original thermostat has Behr Thermo-tronik logo. Large German automotive OEM company.

Last OEM thermostat that I ordered on feb of this year is also behr. I think they are the only oem manufacturers. In 2009 I ordered an oem thermostat which was also behr. Both had been ordered from mopar distributor, not another 3rd party.

The only other thermostat that I would trust is probably the custom one made by our Aussie and Canadians friends :).

Or you can use the upper radiator hose inline peugot one you can order from Napa for about $8. Took my running temp from 145F to 195F in about 5 minutes.

Yep, it is a Behr. Does anyone know if these can be gotten from other suppliers aside from Mopar?

Hmm. I learned about it on here and now I can't find it with the search function either.

Napa # 284, pop off the upper radiator hose from the engine, slide the new thermostat inside the hose so the "bulb" is towards the engine. Add another hose clamp around where the thermostat is then reinstall hose and top off with coolant. Picture in link will make more sense, it's the oddest looking thermostat I've seen but it fixed my stuck open problem.

I drilled a 1/8" hole in it before installing because that's what the original poster did to keep from "shocking" the head with to cold of coolant when it opened and potentially cracking the head. Something to do with why the liberty t stat housing was designed the way it was, but I'm quoting this from memory when I read that thread. As some tstats have a bleeder valve to let air through anyways I figured it safe (free) insurance.

LOST search function is sometimes dicey. If you google "lost inline thermostat" you will see links to several threads on the inline tstat option.

I've had an inline thermostat on hand (as a just in case thing) for many years - It was an obvious option as reserve to me.

Key words in the search string would be: "Stant"; Neverfail;

They are used in Renault and many other camper type vehicles.
These little doodads fail in the OPEN position so you cannot cook your engine.
They are available in 192 deg F and if positioned close to the original t'stat will be good enough until I machine my mods to the original thermostat if or when it does fail.

I reiterate airwerks points.

Some seem to feel there is a need to drill a small blled hole in the body - probably not the case unless like many of you guys ypou live in a very cool climate. They can be fitted with minimal air introduced. Just remember to clamp it in place in the hose!!!!!

You probably need to gutt the original if it fails closed though.
Other parts of the world other than the US can find them hard to source as actually finding someone who stocks them and will send to some other countries can be difficult.

Mopar = BEHR C97780 for the 2005 model year or 4.901.2026F VM Motors.

So where can one get a Behr unit aside from Mopar?? I could not find it previously, kind of the like the OEM Saleri water pump... They claim they can be gotten, but aside from VM and Mopar, I have yet to source them. Also, I won't buy ANYTHING with the Crown brand... My .02 cents though.
