...the low point in my EGR is leaking oil... ![]() Is this because the EGR doesen't open with the GDE tune and now it just collects here? |

I had a bunch of stuff done last week. Timing belt, thermostat, glow plugs, and all related accessories that go with that stuff. But my thought was since the EGR doesn't open there is no flow to push that oil seepage up and out of the EGR tube. Even though the EGR is closed I'm sure it's not 100% liquid sealed. So over time as the CCV vents it's bound to get a little around the EGR and down into the tube... Does this not sound possible? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 |

A very astute observation. The EGR valve assembly is the lowest point in the system and will collect oil with or without a tune. The EGR inlet pipe to the intake elbow is just after the intake throttle. There is a design flaw one can notice with this system. The EGR enters from the bottom portion of the intake elbow so gravity will let oil and goo backflow through the EGR pipe and back to the valve assembly. This type of design lends itself to clogging. Engine manufacturers have learned this problem over the years and most now have EGR entering from a high point or at least from the topside of intake tract to prevent gravity backflow. VM changed this design on the 2008 and newer engines. |

Good info! What I don't get is what the work I had done to it last week made it start leaking.... Or collecting. The mechanic did clean out all those parts (as I ask him to) when he had them off the vehicle. So maybe the sludge was preventing the flow of oil down the pipe? Now that is all nice and clean it has no resistance? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 |
