Hi folks, Have owned a number of diesels through the years but this is my first Jeep. It is a 2005 with 60k on the clock that I picked up for $12k. Started out getting 19 mpg. Cleaned the sensors mentioned and changed the fuel filter as well. Also bought the GDE unit with the eco tune. Now getting 24-25 mpg. I drive 61 miles one way to work each day. About 35 are highway at 70-75 while the remaining miles are through hilly back roads running about 55-60 the majority of the time. I use the cruise a good bit and there is one hill in particular where I consistently get a shudder when it starts boggin down and won't downshift. I am used to it now and just lock out the OD. I feel fairly certain that it is the torque converter but have read about air in the fuel lines also. I have bled the lines several times and am getting air in them. In addition I have had one instance where I pulled out of my drive and it sounded and fealt like I broke a u joint. Pulled into a driveway and it died. Pumped the primer and went on my way. Have not taken it to a dealer to check anything and may not other than to buy the updated fuel head. What do ya'll think is the issue? Thanks, Willmc |

Welcome aboard. Read thru Sir Sam's Noob guide if you have not already done so. Given your symptoms you may have both shudders but if you have the 1s gen fuel filter head that needs to be replaced anyway so do that first; be sure to get the both the head and the new wiring pigtail. If locking out OD stops the shudder on that hill it's likely a TC shudder but you can drive around that for a while. |
