I was driving from Clovis NM to Victorville CA. Got 850 miles to Barstow and after getting back on the 15, the same transmission codes(P0700, 734, 735,. I believe) popped up and the vehicle wasn't shifting into 3rd/4th properly. It was still drivable so I got it to the AAMCO in Victorville on Monday and I Greyhounded it back to Clovis the same day. AAMCO calls me Wednesday and says the transmission is just fine and that the problem appears to be electrical. They weren't elaborating quite well on it and they wanted me to take it down to either the dealer or a small shop they recommended. The small shop wants $95 dollars for diagnostic and right now I'm strapped for funds and too far away to do anything(Liberty's sitting at my stepdads in Victorville). Before I shell out anymore money on labor, is there a possible issue with any sensors not on the transmission? I kind of want to get this solved without having to rush out there on the limited time I always have. |

P0700 is a Generic Transmission error that says something else is wrong. P0735 is Gear Ratio Error in 5th P0734 is Gear Ratio Error in 4th Possible Causes (From the Service Manual downloadable from the NOOB GUIDE): Low Fluid Input speed sensor or wiring bad Valve Body accumulator cover failed Cut OD or 4C Accumulator Piston Broken or missing OD Bleed Orifice in Main Valve Body Cut 4C Tower Seal Transmission solenoid/TRS assembly Cut or Missing #5 or #6 check ball Worn Solenoid Switch valve or plugs Cut OD or 4C Piston Seal Stuck main regulator valve Burned OD or 4C Clutch Broken or Missing 4c bleed orifice in 2c/4c retainer Broken reaction shaft support ring poor machining on pump valve body face loose/missing dribbler orifice assembly in reaction shaft support cracked / loose / missing od/reverse piston bleed orifice Broken reverse carrier hub weld broken revers sun gear weld to reaction carrier Pappy always told me to go after the cheapest fix first. Check the fluid level and remember to use ATF +4 ONLY. After that, I would start looking at the speed sensor, then the Solenoid Pack. How many miles on it? |

About 48000 now. It's all the way in Victorville right now. But I'll take this and submit it to some friends there. |

I should've also mentioned that the AAMCO out in Victorville said that there were no transmission problems upon checking. The transmission was repaired just this month in Lubbock. As for the diagnostic place suggested by the Victorville AAMCO, I may just have it driven over there for a look. It'll take 25 hrs to get back out there by Greyhound and 14 by rental car. With only three days off, that's too short of a time to crunch. |

How many times have you checked your transmission fluid since these repairs? 2. Did Aamco "burp" the transmission for you and add fluid after repairs? |

I wish I could help you.... my transmission has been experiencing the same thing. 25 hours is s along drive for testing If your transmission shop said that it could be an external electrical problem, then I would procure a pressure switch from a used junk yard (pulled from a good running transmission) in your area, there may be one closer by you than the dealer is. From what I read, a bad pressure switch does funny things. If it isn't the pressure switch causing the problems then I would have the used parts shop pull the other switches and test them one by one, I believe that there are 2 more, not sure. The switches are easy to swap if you know their locations. That would be the most inexpensive way to check it and without taking the long hike. Or you could always spend the big bucks and have the mechanics do it. My Transmission is under warranty and is being repaired by the dealer. It has been in the shop for the past 6 weeks, and Chrysler still can't figure it out. A transmission specialist from Detroit is on the case now. They are determined to find the cause of the problem and provided me with a free rental. This could produce a brand new transmission for me with a brand new Torque converter again. You can read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=74713 Good luck. By the way.... sometimes those used parts shops can help you with getting under there and swapping the switches for a couple of bucks more. Note: That the junk yards do not like to remove switches from a good working tranny if they don't have to. They prefer to keep the transmission intact and sell the transmission as a whole, but you never know. If a used switch does fix the problem, you will know which one it is and you will have enough time to drive 12 - 24 hours to the dealer, procure a new one and eventually replace it. Or buy one online and have it delivered.

I'll have my stepdad check the fluids over there. You know what they say about assumptions. I assumed all was just fine after the transmission was completed and now I'm paying for it. As for the poster below you, I'll see about getting those particular switches checked out as well. But since it isn't here with me, I'm having this all done without me around. 1000 miles sits between myself and the Liberty. Greyhounded it back to Clovis just to get back to work. Haven't owned vehicles myself in awhile and feel that my brain isn't what it once was when it comes to these things. |

With all this discussion about switches, could the be a problem with the TCM (transmission control module)?? Could swap out a tcm from a 5.7 Hemi with the same 5 speed trany & try that too. |

I'll reread the work order from AAMCO Lubbock and see what all was done to it again. My mind's been too flustered and baked to have really touched down on this the way I should. Also I kind of wished I had my own garage to utilize. Apartment car-ports are kind of restrictive. |

Long, drawn out process made possible by distance and time-constraints. |

Try finding a transport company to bring it home. |

Non-ATF+4 in a Chrysler transmission is known to cause all kinds of headaches. |

Dennis MacGyver wrote: Try finding a transport company to bring it home. I'm not wealthy you know. Fix it up over there, and then drive it back. I was entertaining the idea of renting a pickup/trailer and getting it myself. But, too many rental places say absolutely not. The way I see it I see it, I'm getting by fine without it for now. If it takes my stepdad and a few others a couple more weeks, it's better than taking an unnecessary pay-cut for extra days off. |

That could be very well be a culprit too. |

However, I still may get it shipped out here anyway, even after it does get fixed. I'll keep the road trips for rental cars. Btw, who did you use to transport it? |
