I've got a 1999 Jetta TDI, 2000 F-250 pickup with a PowerStroke diesel, and as of about a week ago, a 2006 Liberty CRD. I've very impressed with the CRD so far. A few questions....

Is there a CRD FAQ I should read before I bring up old issues again?

I've read quite a few posts about various common issues, but I'm not sure which ones have been fixed in the '06 model. For example I'm not sure if I need to worry about he blow-by clogging the cooler or not. How about others?

I've noticed that over 50 mph I can get quite a loud drone sound. It seems like some sort of unfortunate harmonic resonance. Is this a common issue?

Unfortunatly I've never been able to find a CRD FAQ. Possibly if Daimler Chrysler (DC) does a 2007 CRD then we as a group should make one. As far as I know these are the hot issues:

1. EGR valve failure- bad in 2005, not so bad in 2006. Looks like it will be solved when ULSD comes out in October. Or you can run Biodiesel which has no sulfur - and therefore less soot- and therefore less physical blocking of the EGR valve.

2. Tranny shudder. I get it every once an awhile at approx 50-55mph with OD OFF. Sometime it feels like im going over very small bumps- like a harmonic thing. I have also felt it at different speeds- but rarley. Supposedly there is a TSB then addresses (but not totally fixes) this problem. I am going to get my Liberty to the dealer to get this TBS done, but I'm in no hurry.

3. CCV blow-by. Some people have installed a provent, some are waiting for oldnavy's contraption, I don't think it will be a problem when the ULSD comes out. ULSD should reduce the soot - and therefore take out one of the components that is needed to make the gunk that hobbled the TDI's.

4. Oh the Europeans don't seem to have these same problems- they can get a manual tranny which solves #2 and their diesel is lower in sulfur so 1 and 3 aren't so bad. We think.

5. Some people think that driving with the OD OFF help with milage areound town. Try to keep your engine around 2000 rpms - you are in a sweet zone of fuel efficency. It sure does make the Jeep quicker.

I have 1500 miles on my 06- and I am puting them on fast- so far only the tranny shudder.

If DC decides to make a 07 model then I think this board should try to put together a FAQ for the CRD.

*Note: I could be wrong on all 5 subjects!
