I was just thinking...What are the major differences between the US version of the 2.8l CRD and the European version (in taxis and whatnot over there)?

Could the US EGR be replaced with a euro version? Is the major hiccough the electronics with the rest of the body sensors?

Thanks,
Jon

Did you hear about the guy who was hooked on brake fluid?
He swears he can stop any time.

While Keith at GDE could definitely give you a more definitive answer, I'll try to weigh in.

It's not the EGR valve itself, so much as it is the AMOUNT of EGR valve that the engine uses. The specifications in Europe are more lenient so you have the EGR valve operating less.

I.E. it pushes extremely hot acidic gases and soot into your intake LESS OFTEN than the american programming.

Same part though.

Can we use their computers with our engines? Did Jeep use the 2.8's in any of the Euro versions? Anyone looked into this?

Thanks,
Jon

It was like Hexus was saying, same part, different program. That's what GDE has done with their tunes, just reprogram to keep the EGR closed. Probably cheaper to get the tune/program, unless you found a "stellar" deal on a used ECU.

If you get a great deal on a used Euro PCM, make sure you grab that truck's injectors while you are at it. If not, you will need to reprogram it to your injectors to get optimum functionality.

Actually the EGR valve is probably different. The export model EGR was vacuum activated and the US model electrically operated via a solenoid, thus the wiring is different. The SEGR kits are completely useless in Export models. Keith knows all about it and it was discussed a few months back in my thread on the conversion of the EGR valve to a Blowoff valve.

There are no wires that go to my EGR valve only a single vacuum line from the vacuum controller.

Suggest you talk to Keith, if your goal is simply to stop EGR then the GDE tune is a good idea, and it also retains the turbo surge blow by function.

If you do get an overseas ecu, you will also have to program the VIN into it as well.
