Ok its time to sell, she is ready for a new ride and the CRD is going to go. I hate to do it since I just put a bunch of time and money into it but its time. What did you ask/sell yours for?
If I was to trade it in, how would you go about selling the GED tuned PCM?

-05 Dark Khaki Limited CRD. GDE ECO tune. In-tank lift pump, Transgo shift kit, B&M trans cooler, replaced trans solenoid pack and filters, Newer Michelin tires, Timing belt with water pump, thermostat, and all idlers and tensioner replaced at 110,000miles.

Judging by all of the low ball offers I've gotten on mine and kine is in extremely nice shape I would say people will offer you 5-7. There's no pictures to go off of either though.

Ya that's what I was afraid of!
These darn things are not worth much anymore unless you find the right person.

Anyone can Google "Jeep Liberty CRD problems" and see a thousand reasons why they should not pay much for one of these vehicles. The risk is just too high unless you can offset it with a low purchase price. Even for someone who DIY's all their maintenance the parts cost and availability is a killer. Yeah, you really need to find the right person.

I value mine at $30,000 because that's what it would cost to replace it with something that can tow as well and has 4x4.

I too wanted to sell mine but it is running great at 125,000 miles despite the fact my last CEL was 2 weeks ago (MAF sensor code, new airfilter and some MAF cleaner did the trick).

As long as I don't lose the bottom end, I now plan on keeping mine forever. I almost forgot how much I hate car payments and how stressful it was paying off our Liberty early to get out of them.

I figure a couple thou for repairs if I need them (e.g. head gasket, turbo failure that will eventually occur, and maybe rockers one day) is about what I'd have to fork over in taxes and registration on a new vehicle.

I'm going to put 500-600 miles on it this week towing 2 ATVs while on vacation. I may even do some mild off roading in the high country. I'm stuck with my Liberty.

I honestly have the same mindset when it comes to the CRD, it really hasn't been to costly over the years but she just wantes something new that she doesn't have to worry about if I am out of town. Its not fun getting a call from your girlfriend when your 1,500 miles from home, she went to the mall and got stranded and was all worked up!

"I got this car for my girlfriend. What a trade!"

Could be... Then again, if we are talking about the CRD, the girlfriend might be cheaper to keep around. :goink:

Good luck on whatever you decide to do with it.

Trade in value is next to nothing @ the Ford dealer so I will attempt to sell it myself!

I know I'm not going to get $8k but at this point I wouldn't mind seeing closer to six, six and a half! I don't have my hopes up!!

No way! It's a 7 or 8 year old vehicle with reliability issues and high maintenance costs. In hindsight it wasn't even worth $30K when new but then no one could have predicted that Chrysler were going to drop it after making only a handful. Having paid $36K after taxes for a new one in 2006 I'm kind of attached to it because it still represents the wad of cash I once owned . Getting rid of it for a song would be like saying a final goodbye to that $36K well before it's time.

So, I totally understand where you're coming from but the reality is that the market decides what it's really worth, not you or I.

Put it this way, if you totalled yours would you buy another? Would you be willing to pay $30K for another 7 year old vehicle with 125K on the clock?

For me the market is undervalues them by 40-50% which is the main reason why I still own mine but there's no way it's worth $30K. Heck, if someone want's to pay that much for mine I'll gift wrap it, put a bow on top and personally hand deliver it anywhere in the country free of charge.

Very well said!! I did not buy mine new but I still paid much more then its worth now. Since it is worth next to nothing we are most likely end up keeping it unless someone offers near what I owe on it. I don't owe a ton, about double trade in value so I am way under water on the little jeep. On the plus side my chick still likes the CRD but is just sick of the little issues. With any luck someone will run into it and total with out causing any damage to the occupants inside, no way could my luck with this jeep work out that positively !
No CEL's right now so keep on truckin.

Glad you're holding on to her.

We have all the issues narrowed down now, any future repairs will be a cinch.

Keep on trucking.

Last year a good running local CRD was sold with over 310,000 miles on it, and the new owner has put another 12,000 miles on it, no issues.

Well - the biggest problem on resale is that the Diesel is in a Liberty

check the prices of V6's in your neighborhood and then CRD's - the Diesel's worth more (in my neighborhood $2000 more)

- but not enough to make up for what the Liberty lost.

if they'd have put it in a Wrangler - resale would be a lot higher.

I made a feeble attempt selling mine, when I bought a new car, for $5,000.
Glad I still have it but a pickup truck is needed.
New windshield going in today, going to get it inspected, clean it up and try to sell it again.
Selling takes so much energy, dealing with people that do not have money and want something for nothing is a common challenge.
When buying an old Airstream, you knew if you were the first person to look at it you had a chance of buying it. Nothing like a Liberty.

You missed my point. The value of my CRD to me is $30k because that is what I'd have to shell out $$$ to replace it with a new vehicle with similar capabilities. As long as I keep it, I'm saving $30k and that is what it is worth TO ME. If I were to sell it, I'd be lucky to get $8k for it.

I actually had my vehicle "sold" twice several months ago but neither had good enough credit to get financing despite assuring me they had "perfect" credit. Too many other "tire kickers" who said they wanted the vehicle but never followed thru or agreed to a small deposit when pressed.

If you look at a used KJ CRD at a used car lot, you'll see an overpriced tag on it and a salesman who tells you price is at a premium because it is a "rare" diesel. If you traded in the same vehicle, you'd get lowballed because diesel fuel is more costly than gas and diesels are loud and smelly.

I don't think I did. You simply can't value your 8 year old vehicle with 100K+? miles based on what it would cost to replace with a brand spanking new one. If it got stolen your insurance company would agree with me. You could easily replace with another used for $7K? It can't possibly be worth any more than this to you. There are also probably other cheap alternatives out there if you're prepared to trade maintenance costs for fuel economy, a trade I'd gladly make.

Maybe they initially liked the idea of a diesel Jeep and then came to their senses after they went home and did their due diligence?

Gee Guys, go easy on each other.
If it is worth 100,000 to someone, whatever, if the dollar games continue that might be a fair (if somewhat inflated) value. A bad joke, on all of us.
I'm lookiing for a diesel pickup and to sell the Liberty CRD, shall we talk about selling tips?
I must clean out the dog slobber and dog hair as well as washing windows.
Front grill is cracked, might as well replace that too.
