Princess's Jeep has develped a hesitation under light throttle every now and then. Mostlly when turning a corner, then light throttle. I understand turbo lag and this is a new quirk. I just put a updated fuel head. The line set from the tank was replaced by Jeep back in 2007. I checked al the air tubes and fuel tbes on the top side. No cracks or leaks. No codes other than the disconected FCV and Maf. Mni filter for the turbo is clean. Map sensor is clean. New fuel filter. 58000 on the clock and she runs great and never missed a beat. except for the 2 to 3 hard shift. This one has the Kid stumped and you usally can't stump the Kid. Any help or insight would be great. |

This is purely a guess. papaindigo mentioned a 'sticky' pedal caused by dust buildup in the throttle mechanism - for him - it caused a slow return - could it also cause a hesitation? http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=76222 |

"papaindigo mentioned a 'sticky' pedal" I read about that while investigating this issue and I will be checking on that. One other thing I thought about is it just might need a good work out. These diesels just don't seem to fair well as a commuter with short drives, which she uses it for. I'm going to bring the skid steer trailer home hook up the jeep and see what it'll do. Jut haven't quite decided if I should put the skid steer on the trailer too and find a safe place where I won't have to stop. |

Easier to find a steep hill and bury your foot until you get to the top I do it twice a month on my way to work. Also these turbos are extremely easy to take apart and clean and lube the vaines I have 2 i have done so far without any problems. One got sold and went on another members jeep the other one is staying with me for a little polishing on some of the internals to see if i can milk some more power out of it. |

The easy off trick seems less stressful..... |

LMWatBullRun wrote: The easy off trick seems less stressful..... Problem with the oven cleaner method is that it only cleans the variable vanes in the turbo. But wet stacking affects the whole air path, most importantly exhaust ports. And thanks to the DC thermostat design, a lot of CRD's are running with their temperatures too low already. AND the EGR both lowering combustion temps and recycling soot into the exhaust flow. If the engine is in good shape otherwise (not due for a timing belt, rockers verified good) the best thing to do is load 3 beefy passengers into the front, or 700# of something in the back (bagged cement or somesuch) and take it out to a long, steady grade. There's a particular one on I-81 that's perfect. Floor it at the bottom and keep it there until the rpm's or your nerves top out. The idea is to get the exhaust path hot all the way from the valves to the tailpipe and burn off any volatiles that are holding gunk together. |

I will be posting a how to on the turbo disassembly and clean up as soon as i get some time off work again. It is rather amasing how close these little turbos are to the 6.0L Ford VGTs. |
