I found a hose hanging down in the transmission area. Does it hook up to something or is it a drain hose?

Maybe it is the transmission drain hose that is suppose to be dripping on the exhaust?

2005 CRD. It looks like a vacuum hose.

As far as I know there is not transmission drain hose. However there is a transmission vent hose that some have found dangling. IIRC it runs to somewhere up on the firewall and can be zip tied to the oil dip stick tube. Does it have a fitting on the end?

Looking in the FSMs there is mention of a transmission vent hose and a transfer case vent hose. No pics of the former but the latter is shown in the 05 FSM figure 5 on pg 21 - 285. Bound to be one or the other.

A little off topic but does the Liberty also have simular vent lines for the axles? I dont think so.
I know that older Wrangler Jeeps do.

Yes or at least the parts manual shows a vent line on the rear axle. I don't get that deep in water so I've never looked though.
