Hey guys, I'm really interested in buying a CRD ... and I need a reliable transportation. I've gone through some of the old thread and they seem outdated. So let's make and updated one:

1) Mileage, %Freeway/%Street,
2) Major Repair: Turbo, Tranny, Over Heating
3) Minor Repair: Window Related, Gauge
4) How much you spent in repairs?
5) Mods
6) Has it ever left you stranded?

Thanks!

I'm at about 84k

1) my overall average is about 21mpg, that's mostly local driving which is "country", I get about 24 on the highway driving modestly
2) no major repairs
3) minor repairs that I consider pretty typical: bypassed trans. cooler, replaced viscous fan clutch, replaced engine mounts, brakes, etc. etc.
4) i'd have to look that up but I do most of the work mysef so it's just a matter of parts and time...
5) see signature
6) NEVER BEEN STRANDED...I've popped a couple of turbo hoses on the road, easy fix. it went into limp mode on me once on the way to work, turned it off, started up again, no problems, that was years ago and it hasn't happened since.

My CRD is pretty much my dream vehicle, it's got the space, capability I need and will be even better once I get into brewing bio for it...don't let the problem posts scare you! You don't see too many from guys like me because I have few problems!!! Buy it!!

1) 128,000, 75% / 25% - I average 28MPG combination driving.
2) Rockers/Lifters, Turbo, Transmission Solenoid
3) Need new Regulator Driver Rear, Coat Hanger Holding it up perm atm.
4)$2000ish, Turbo/Rockers/Lifters - Mods don't count.
5) See Signature
6) Yep, Broken Lifter and Worn Rockers, What I thought was a busted turbo was just a money sink due to a bad diagnosis (Why I found this board in the first place).

My current 05 has about 48,800 miles of which about 22,000 is mine and my previous 05 had 16,400 when it was rear ended by a dump truck. My son's (stoutdog) has about 52,000 miles of which about 26,000 is his. My driving is mostly local surface streets and relatively short distance with occasional longer travel (DC, Savannah) my son's has been mostly long hwy miles and until recently his local miles were on relatively wide open roads in the Phoenix, AZ area.

1. between the 2 of us probably 50/50, mpg pre-GDE tune was 18ish city vs 27ish hwy and post-GDE tune 23-24 city vs. 32-33 hwy
2. none
3. typical KJ window regulator repair, my temp gauge was reflashed under TSB, leaky 1st gen fuel filter head, thermostat same for son plus air box to turbo hose split
4. cost of parts only excluding mods Steiger window regulator fix ca. $90 per window done; filter head $120; tstat $120; same for son plus $60 for airbox to turbo hose
5. mods - I have the GDE Stage II turbo with SunCoast TC just because I wanted them. Other than that Samco CAC hoses, fumoto oil drain valve, Hayden fan clutch with nylon fan - same for son.
6. no.

I'm currently at around 86,000 miles. bought it 4 years ago and it hardly seems that long ago with 38,000 on it.
mine had the fuel head done already. I had to get new tires a few months after buying it the Goodyear were junk and about done. almost time for a new set again. I did add a Provent and had GDE ECO tune done after the first year.
I had to replace the Stock battery with in a few months it let me stranded dead with no warning.
my thermostat failed after 50,000 miles sometime.
I replaced brake pads and fluids which is normal maintenance
electrical problem with power seats repaired $200
its been trouble free mostly until this year. so far this year:
left rear window regulator broke in April - repaired with Steiger fix
Serpentine tension-er needed replaced in June
last week right rear window regulator broke - just got Steiger repair kit in the mail yesterday
and U-joints in the rear drive shaft are being replaced next Tuesday.
those are not major things are all really just a hand full of little things close togther mostly.

I did lift mine this winter with the OME kit and JBA A-arm still with the ECO tune I'm seeing 21-22 MPG in town and on highway 26 -32 MPG. the lower highway # was when I was towing a pop up camper and had a Kayak on the roof.

I bought mine 2.5 years ago and it had 48,000 miles on it. Since then I have put on Samco hoses, GDE eco tune around 70k miles, did brakes and one rotor due to me not checking the pad thickness..oops!!! Had the transmission go but from what I was told, it was whoever put it back together after the f37 update put something together wrong. I am now at 97k and will be doing the timing belt as soon as I get the unobtanium vm1085 tool (working on that though) .. Would I buy it again HELL YES!!! Sure it needs a bit of maintaining but what other vehicle out there can go from my favorite off roading trails for me to get to some of my fishing spots to 31 mpg on the hwy? (actually got 36 but that was through the Colorado Rockies and I might have had a nice downhill stretch :) Yep I like it and my son wants one now... went from Southern Ca to Denver Co and stopped for Diesel..... once :)

Got mine with 47K. Now has just about 92K. At 62K I did the trans fluid, front and rear diff oil, and transfer case oil, at 72K I did the motor mounts. Not sure of the mileage, but last August, I replaced the original battery with a P1. I did the brake pads/rotors at 90K on all 4. At 91K I did the timing belt/water pump/tensioner/rollers/serpentine belt and thermostat. Having the glow plug update done this coming week as PM. I change the oil every 4500 miles, air filter every 8-10K, fuel filter every 10-12K. I run Power Service diesel fuel additive every tank. I have had no real trouble with it. It's been a good vehicle... much better than the last two Subaru's we had (and no longer own I might add...). It goes where I need it to, it is comfortable, and it is good on fuel. Plus it is a unique vehicle. I'm happy.

I'm at 84K miles. EHM since about 12K and SEGR since about 36K.

1) Depends on %blend of biodiesel but about 20mpg city/27hwy
2) None
3) All four window regulators, thermostat, airbox to turbo hose, fuel head, battery, brakes
4) ? Whatever those parts cost. Not too much
5) Most in sig
6) No, but I obtained some bad fuel on I-10 once that gunked up the fuel filter which meant it started sucking air into the fuel lines. It wasn't real happy but I got it from Lordsburg to Las Cruces NM where I got a new filter. Installed the lift pump when I got back home and now keep a filter in the back.

Brewing my own biodiesel for about a year now. Like a giant chemistry set. Mostly fun and certainly economical. Last batch was $0.82 per gallon.
