I've just got my KJ back from a service (actually, I'd already done most of it, but it was due the annual Government safety check) and while it passed the test, the service showed a leak from the gearbox oil cooler pipes (I'm reading from the invoice) - apparently there is corrosion on the pipes. It's recommended that I change these asap in case there is failure which - as I'll be driving across Europe in 2 weeks, I'm keen to avoid.

Can anyone tell me the part numbers for these pipes?

On a different note, does anyone know how to reset the countdown to service on the EVIC?

With the service interval displayed on the EVIC press the Step button to scroll thru the preset options.

Not sure about the gearbox pipes issue. What type of transmission do you have? On this side of the pond we only have the 545RFE automatic and the only place it usually leaks is at the quick disconnects to the transmission cooler. Not a critical issue but can be fixed relatively easily.

If you have not already done so get PDFs of the Owner's manual (a US version can be downloaded from Jeep although the original is often still in the vehicle but "hidden" on a shelf in the upper part of the glove box) and from Sam's NOOB guide link the Factory service manual (05 and 06 as 05 lacks diesel cooling data and diagnostics but has illustration keys while 06 is reverse), and the appropriate parts fiche. The latter should help you with the "pipes".

Good to hear you are almost done. Hope the temp issue has been solved.

Hi Jim - I also have the 545RFE; I'll have a look as you suggest - I suspect that I was being lazy! :)

The cooling issue seems to have been dealt with - certainly no more problems have manifested themselves.

Adrian - some other folks may be more help on the tranny lines than I as I know some have dropped their tranny to do a TC. I on the other hand paid SunCoast to do that for me. So best I can do from the manuals, parts fiche, past chat.

The CRD 545RFE tranny cooler is located in the bottom of the AC condenser, not the radiator. It's not uncommon for either the quick disconnect fittings there (see cooling section of the 06 FSM) to leak nor is it uncommon for the tranny cooler portion of the AC condenser to leak. In the latter case the easy fix is to cut the lines and splice in an aftermarket tranny cooler just behind the plastic grill. The brain dump I gave you via email should include a transmission cooler document with helpful pics and links. I've never heard of corrosion on those lines. See figure 7-610 of the 06 parts fiche for what appears to be those lines.

I think but am not positive that the lines are PN 55037734AD and the quick disconnects might be 52119547AA. Frankly I wouldn't bet on either of those numbers being right without consulting with my local DCJ parts manager whom I've known for decades now. Let me know what you find and I can ask if need be but my bet is on either leaky fittings or a leaky tranny cooler portion of the AC condenser.

Enjoy the drive across Europe. We are looking at about a month in France in April.

Thanks Jim. Actually, we were driving across Germany on the first day and heard a "funny noise" so I pulled over into the rest area at Wurzburg to have look. There was oil all over the front underside and some dripping off. I called the rescue service and we got taken into Wurzburg where fortunately there is a main Chrysler dealer. On examination the next day, they reported that the pipe had developed a substantial leak, but luckily not much oil had escaped - it looked worse than it was. Part ordered and fitted the day after. Cost of the part was €142, and labour was €872. I will get a lot of this back under my travel insurance, but the main benefit is peace of mind - problem fixed! The noise? turned out that the lane markings on autobahns are textured to make a warning noise when you drive on them. As we didn't know that, we didn't dare press on without checking the vehicle - very lucky indeed as we could have lost the oil and damaged the trans!

Wurzburg was really nice as well - food and local wine excellent, located on a very scenic part of the river Main and surrounded by vineyards with some lovely old churches and historic buildings and a lot of hotels!

France will be lovely in early spring - have a great time.
