I will soon have VERY easy access to LP, so it got me thinking about this. Anybody have such a kit, or know anything about them? I'm thinking about a system for the CRD that would supplement the diesel, possibly even to replace a substantial amount of it IF that is even possible. I'm still researching at the moment. Some of the naysayers suggest on other boards that pistons could be melted, but that seems unlikely unless you have a completely unregulated supply and massively overfuel. I'm thinking of a post-turbo post-intercooler kit, piped right into the FCV elbow area. Thoughts?

It is my understanding that LPG or Propane converts to spark ignited engines over compression.

I have a propane generator. Propane has less BTU's than gasoline.

A lot of the bigger trucks run propane, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for us

The nice thing about LP is that you don't need as much space for tanks as with CNG, and the system is low pressure, around 200 psi vs 3600 for CNG. The bad thing is that the BTUs of LP is lower than CNG, so it need to be about 2/3 or less the price of #2 to make it make sense financially. LP = 91K BTU/gal, #2 = 140K BTU/gal.

Propane isn't used as much as CNG just because most can't make it make sense financially, but the theory of operation is much the same and well proven.

I know its an old thread but the kits on eBay are what I would buy. I haven't done it yet because of lack of room to put a small tank somewhere. As my crew cab F350 Powerstroke, there is plenty everywhere. . I would think for the 4 banger you would need to adjust the regulator down even more compared to a full size diesel.
