Post subject:  Can't Find Coolant Leak

Thanks for the help in advance guys (first time posting)....

I have a coolant leak and can not find it. After reading about others problems on the board I assumed it was a HG failure. I took it to a shop for diagnosis, whetzel auto (as recommended on the board) and they can't find anything wrong with the damned thing.

It has passed block and pressure tests cold and at operating temp..... They are going to try again on Monday but if they don't try anything new what is the point?

The diesel runs perfectly but coolant doesn't just disappear does it? Probably a quart missing in a 2-3 week period

Hmmmm. . . no responses. Check out 'New to me CRD' thread just above yours. There are some good hints about tracking down coolant leaks.

good luck

PS You can go back and click the X toward the bottom of your posts and delete a couple of them ;)

Howdy welcome to LOST -- read the Noob guide

The headgasket is one of the more extreme issues - although the really quick test - on a cold engine - open the cap on the coolant tank to release any pressure - then start it up for about a minute and reopen the cap and see if it's built any pressure. Cylinders are the only thing that will pressurize it that quickly.

much more common are leaking hoses/clamps - specially around the EGR area
leaking radiators - normal stuff - check those too.
